My friend told me that application for YC nursery is on a first-come-first-serve basis.  Shortly after my friend submitted the application form, she received an offer for an "interview" and was told to bring with along the documents and cheques for the admission registeration.  At the interview, the teacher in charge said that their application is guaranteed and please proceed with the registration procedure outside the interview room.
Is that true??

that's true, for my experience..i apply its nursery for my son last year..same process as yr friend stated..so, i finally turn down its offer..as they give me the impression that "u can have a place if u have $)..

this year (just 1 wk b4), they call me again as i apply for K1 this year..(as i think K1 need to be interview)..however, make me disappointed..coz also same process..so, i finally not go to interview

It is Yew Chung's belief and philosophy to educate every child irrespective of their abilities.  Therefore, they usually use a first come first serve basis to admit students.

I agree with foolish.mom, it's their belief every child can educate and they have the abilities to learn.  Therefore, they are much concern that you agree with their philosopy or not rather than your child's interview performance.  My son is now studying nursery there.  The teachers are very nice and patient.  There are 1 native english teacher and 2 cantonese teachers and one helper in each class, so the children can be well treated.  I can see my son improves a lot and very happy to go to school.  I am very satisfied with this school except the expensive school fee. Haha..

Hi bbirene,
Would you please elaborate more on your son's improvement?
My daughter is 17 months now & can't (may be don't wanna do??) the followings:
eat & drink by herself, sleep by herself, walk without holding anything, speak a word....  I worry very much she will have a hard time when she admitted the nursery class in the coming Aug.  According to your exprience, can the teachers help my daughter to take care of herself?

Hi cc2413,

For my son's case, he talks only few single words before entering YC nursery, now he can talk a lot of words and sentences. He don't know how to use a cup to drink without straw, now he can.  Now he can place his schoolbag, put the handbook into the basket, take off his shoes and socks, wash his hands, dry off his hands by tissue and put the tissue into the bin and eat the snack by himself. Although he still needs help in putting on his socks and shoes, I am very happy with these improvements.

bbirene,
I also send an application form but still waiting for their interview.  I want to ask the fee about this school.  From their website, it said the school fee is $5500 for each month (half day).  I want to know anymore fee that I have to pay later?  For example reservation fee....etc.  And also you said they've one native english teacher and one chinese teacher, is there a putonghua teacher?

Thank you very much!

junengai

Hi junengai,

The reservation fee is around $600, and will deduct in the first month school fee later.  No other fees will be charged except the school bag and the uniforms.
There are 2 cantonese teachers and 1 native english teacher in the class.  But if you choose the mandarin class, 2 putonghua teachers and 1 native english teacher in the class.

I think attending their briefing session is very useful.  For my case, I submitted the form around early Nov last year and then I attended their briefing.  1 or 2 weeks after the briefing, I received their call for interview.  Now, my boy is studying their N1 class and he is happy to be there ar.

But, as your baby was born in the end of Nov, the chance for being admitted may not be very good as their places may be filled up by "big boys/girls" first.  Anyway, good luck to you.

lingling06,

May I know the interview is in Cantonese or English!  And what will they ask about?  Because my daughter is only 18 months now, she does not speak too much yet.

Thanks a lot!

Actually, the interview was conducted by Ms. Kam, the principal herself.  As we speak Cantonese, she talk with us in Cantonese as well.  BTW, my boy was just 14 months old when they called us for the interview.

During the interview, Ms. Kam talked to us about the school's philosophy and our expectation about our boy and the school.  She even didn't talked to my son as she understood that baby would get frightened when a stranger was focusing on him.  She just observered my boy's behaviour and talked to him when he showed interest in this stranger.

So, take it easy when they call u for interview.  They don't have test on the parents and babies.  They just need to ensure that parents agree with their teaching principles.

Good luck.

My girl and I  attended the interview in October for the the coming N1 class.  You may choose the interview by English or Cantonese.  The Cantonese section was conducted by Ms Kam while the English Section was conducted by native English teacher.

My girl got a place after interview.
Now I am just worrying about the transportation.  We live in TKO and it will take long time to/fro school. Would any mom have the similar situtation and how to solve the problem?

Many thanks

You can choose to take the school bus.  It is very safe as it is run by YC itself.
