Dear Parents,

My daughter will be sitting for the RC interview in Jan. Could RC parents kindly hint me about the interview ? What do they expect from my child and us ? Thanks a lot.

And i would like to know the workload in RC, too. How many assignments ? How many dictation and regular assessments ?

looks like you don't know about ESF much. For the interview, just prepare for the English Skill. Nothing else need. They will interview in small group of children like other ESF Primiary School.

in P1 the workload is mimimal, your won't see any dictation and assignment will be mostly finish in school.

well, i don't expect any assignment and assessments in Year one.
I ask such a question cos' i know a boy living here (in Year 3) needs to rush home for homework or dictation from time to time. So, i am a bit worried.

You mean he studies in RC Yr 3 and need to rush home for homework? Or you mean local school? Not for the case in RC I think...

Rush home for homework or dictation? Sounds exceptional.

Well, there are homework, but there is no need to rush home for that. Even my son in Year 8 is not rushing home for homework. He can usually finish his homework within 2 hours.

There are no "dictation" in RC primary. They call the process of learning to spell words "spelling". Children are divided into groups. Children with stronger spelling skills get the most challenging spelling list and children with weak spelling skills get the easier list. They have different spelling tasks to be done at school and at home. Basically, they do not even need to study for the words since after doing all the tasks, most can memorise naturally the spelling of the words.

Of course, I am talking about the norm. Most children with "average" ability would not have to rush home for homework. However, I agree that there are children that need more time than most average children to complete the same work.

The boy is studying in RC. We usually meet him at club house and her mom comes in to call him home for homework and "dictation".

Hi popolung,

My son will take the interview in Jan too! IF, I bring him by myself, would it be fine? (my hb works in China and I don't know if I should ask him to come with us or not...)

The interview format will be similar to playgroup format? Story telling, following instructions, answering questions etc???

My kid was applied for Year 2 but without notification for interview.

According to briefing of RC, should be similar like other ESF interview. Small group playing, reading story, ask questions, etc.

If you are the one who take care of your kid, then I guess since you can smooth your kid, will be fine. Good Luck!

Some Year 3 kids in RC do have Chinese dictiation. Each time about 10 詞語 are given more than 2 weeks ahead. (Please note there is different chinese groups in each form) I guess the boy needed to rush home because the next day was the dictation and his mom wanted him to do a last time swotting?

So far there was only 2 or 3 dictations have been done in this term in my kid's chinese group.

There is maths worksheet and chinese writing from time to time, but definitely won't take too long to finish.

My girl is now in Yr 2 and she just finished her second Chinese dictation yesterday. Each time there will be 10 詞語 and the teacher will inform the parents about one week in advance.

She is also having spelling exercise in English now. The spelling will be done in class and I just help my girl to do the revision. Students are encouraged to write sentences/draw pictures/writiing similar words as homework. The teacher also encourage those with better language skill to write a short story with the words learned as well. Good exercise for the kids and they can use they own imagination to write whatever they like
