Where did you get such information from? or it's just your own thinking simply because you're biased against schools in kowloon tong eg maryknoll? because a lot of my friends studied in ivy league colleges and oxbridge alumni (they hold gatherings meeting up with prospective students) and many are from schools like DGS and Maryknoll.... many got scholarships as well.
Maybe you can clarify your sources.

Quite right.  I said that rankings must, necessarily, involve stereotyping.  I make no apologies for stereotyping about MCS students (I know a lot of nice, good MCS students but my impression is unfortunately spoilt by a number of celebrities and socialites - no names mentioned but u know who).  I know I know - People will say I am superficial but, hey, ranking IS superficial.    St Mary's, for example, is a very  good school (on a par with MCS I would say) but very few people talk about it.  Why?  St Marians are more "low-profiled" ma.  Is that a good thing?   Why not?

I've read through the website as well. THere's no information about DGS. Based on the info (2002), Maryknoll's 會考平均每人摘Ａ數目 is really way ahead of St Mary , so as overall standard. I'm sure DGS is about the same or even higher (FYI, Queen's 會考平均每人摘Ａ數目 is 2.2). For girls' schools ranking, I still think that the top 2 places are DGS and Maryknoll.
St Mary's is also a very good girl school, but I will place it to the same level with schools like St Stephen Girls, 庇理羅士女子中學, 嘉諾撒聖心學校 , St Paul's convent.
Personal opinion: I think the overall standard of girls schools on HK island is better than kowloon side: there are not many top notch girls schools on kowloon side apart from  2 or 3.
Just something to share.

As an DGS old girl, I would like to say the following.

DGS indoctrinates students in terms of excellence through different means such as music, sports & academics, this will persist throughout their lives.
Even though there were some fellow schoolmates of mine who complained about that, I do believe that those who have sufficient energy and pace will follow what the school desires.

About the marriage issue, stats says that only around 30% of the graduates are married. I guess it does say sth about the character of the girls.
DGS girls are hard working, striving and they are very tough.
The relatively low marriage rate would not only be attritbuted to girls being smarter than men, but I feel that the attitude taught remained to be one of the reasons for such a rate. When a girl is taught to be assertive and tough, it overlaps with the characterisitcs of the male counterpart that the society would expect.
maybe the girl herself is even tougher than the male and his existence would sound as a relative nuisance. DGS education is very focused on the careers side of us. Pros and cons of course, women should be independent these days and thus deemed as correct in inserting us with feministic values, however, one must not forget that within a traditional marriage structure, the female would be desired as the caretaker of the family.

Nevertheless, the competition within the school is intense and therefore the best products from the school will truly be the best of all. DGS girls do think of their school and themselves as the best and they live up to this image. Some poeple might worry the experience, but it is soo valuable that small obstacles should not prevent the willing from hindering their plans.

I thought it would be more appropriate to view different schools producing different types of students

Agree with you.  Just wondering which school will you choose for your girl then?  International School?  DGS?  DSS?  Can you share some of your views as I am also considering choosing which school for my girls...

Yes, I am an old girl from MCS.  For the year I graduated, 2 of my classmates got 9A's and 8A's.

The reason why DGS always stays at the top: they have private primary school, they can choose very good students from weathly family and professional parents, that's how they get smart children and wealthy parents who can send their children to expensive schools overseas.    For MCS and other good schools, primary students are selected by lucky draw, no guarantee on quality and background.  Thus, good students are results of hard work of devoted teachers and parents.

But, I will not send my girl to MCS. As we do not believe in the edu. system created by our 'beloved' government, we will send my girl to some school with less pressure, that uses the activity based teaching.

I also rank Sacred Heart higher than Marymount cos Marymount is good in English only, for other subjects, I think Marymount is not especially good,
especially science subjects. Comparatively speaking, Sacred Heart is more all round.

Agree. All interesting comments and most are from old girls. The world has changed and I can see the banding is not as wide as before, same as election results 5(?) to 4(?). Accept it or not, this is the real world!

Both schools have published their HKCEE 2006 results on their repsective web site.  Although Sacred Heart uses graphical representation, we can still make a fine guess.  

                      Marymount               Sacred Heart
                     A         C or above     A       C or above
Physics         6.5%       68.3%        6-7%    ~40%
Chemistry     8.1%       66.1%       ~10%     < 70%
Biology          6.7%     74.2%        <10%    < 70%
Math             11.3%     67%          <10%     <70%
A. Math         28.6%     85.7%       <5%        ~50%

Sacred Heart does better in Chemistry while Marymount does better in Physics and A. Math.  Biology and Math are more or less the same.  I don't see Sacred Heart is significanlty better than Marymount in science subjects grades.
