Papa,
It depends on the talent, interest and eagerness to practise of the kids. Many students studying Music at college can play 2 or more instruments nowadays.
It is relatively easy at the beginners' levels. As level advances, one needs more and more time to practise no matter how talented the kid is.
My kid plays both piano and violin. At first, I "designated" piano as the 1st instrument and violin as the minor instrument. After several years, he obviously likes violin more and violin now becomes the 1st instrument. He refuses to practise piano and I promise him to let him quit piano after Grade 6 exam this year.
Thus, kids may start with 2 instruments and parents monitor progress. If problems come (e.g. no time to practise), kids should consider choosing one to avoid "half bucket of water" eventually. |
