Hi all,

Time really flies when you're having fun.
How did you child get on at SC?  Did he or she have a good year?  Did your child turn out the way you had expected?  Is your child speaking more english than she was at the beginning of the school year?  Let's hear your story...

For me, I'm happy that she did enjoyed her school year.  I was so excited to see her perform quite well at the school fun day.  In fact, all the kids did a good job on that day.

Since we speak cantonese at home, I've never been able to find out how well my child speaks in English.  Whenever I talk to her in Engllish, she always reply in Cantonese.  But things started to emerge when we got a new Philipino helper in May this year.  Our previous Philipino helper could'nt speak much English at all.  So it was a very rare sight to see her converse with my child in English.  But since the arrival of our new helper, I could see my child is beginning to speak more english with her.  Whether this remarkable improvement is attributed to learning at SC or more opportunity to speak english with someone at home (or both), I don't know.  But I'm glad to hear what I've been hearing.

I remember vividly my daughter first saying to me "I love you Ba Ba" when giving me a hug.  I'll never forget these few words; they really touched my heart.

Overall, I'm very pleased that my daughter is very happy at SC.  I think she has made a good start.

The school report and English teacher comment can tell you if your child's English is good or not.

Gooddaddy,

No doubt that children's english is comparably better at SC. This is a general comment to SC as there are many native english teachers in SC.  Remember on that fun day at that school in Whampao, I though I entered an international school when seeing a group of SC teachers at the entrance who were all foreigners......

My girl graduated from SC and now she is P.3. English is her best subject in which speaking is the best.

My son is also in Lower class this year, he is willing to speak in english though not as keen as his sister. he knows when and to whom to speak English. When we speak to him in cantonese, he can convey our ideas to the phillipinno helper in English.

And barque is right, we will get an idea from the school report as to the english performanc at school.

However, I have to admit that my kids also receive other english exposures, not only at SC, cause continue practise is necessary for whatever language.

Thanks for sharing barque and CDma.

Yes, I agree that school report does give a general indication of how well or bad a child could speak English language.  But to me these are just a set of figures given subjectively by teachers without much meanings in them.  So I think the best way to tell how well a child speaks english is when he or she engage in a actual instantaneous conversation with someone.

Sometimes I get a bit worried when my helper keep speaking broken english with my daughter. I've to correct her so as not to let my daughter pick up the mistakes from her. eg:

"I don't like" (missing object/pronoun)
"wait me" (missing word "for")
there are many more but I can't remember them at the moment.

I am considering to apply K1 of St Cat. for my son. After reading your messages, I don't worry about the English for the students, how about Putonghua, is there any Putonghua lesson in school?

Totowang, yes there are putonghua sessions in SC.  If you really want more emphasis on putonghua, you can pick the putonghua stream.

想問下英粵班&英普班,邊一種多人揀d呢?
見選擇英普班要用普通話interview,會較難pass嗎?
thanks~
