Any comment or advice about this school?  I heard their  chinese/mardarin standart is quite good, it is true?  What about their English standard?  Is it difficult to apply?

Hi lollipop (or I should say a new comer registered on March 2nd 2008),

Obviously you are bad-mouthing RCHK and Singapore Int'l School.  Please be reminded that we can read your responses on 5 threads simultaneously.

My cousin is studying in Yew Chung Secondary and my daughter is studying in RC Primary.  I am sure I know well in both schools.  Have you visited both schools personally?

I don't mean YC is not good.   Fortunately my cousin is studying very well in this school.

Just a wild guess.  Are you a student in YC and rejected by RC Secondary?

For other parents, it had better visit the schools and find out the facts rather than reading any rumours here.

Best regards,
chingyu

SIS is good at both English and Mardarin, even written Chinese.

My son studied at SIS from PY1 to P6, and joined a band one EMI local school. His English is nearly the top at the form.

Yew Chung...
My personal point of view, the families are too rich, and many have conflicts in other issues (values and conducts).

SIS adopts the curriculum used in Singapore schools which is solid. The standard of English is on par with most of the international schools. Although the standard of Chinese is lower than the local schools, it is still higher than other IS. Also, SIS has a very high standard in Maths & Science . Some of the Sceince materials taught in SIS are that I learnt in Secondary school. Also, many countries are using the Maths textbooks developed by Singapore.

The reason that I put my kids in SIS isthe competitiveness of Singapore education system. SIS students are bilingual (i.e. proficient in Putonghua & English) and disciplined.

If you apply for PY1, the chance of being accepted is very high. If you apply for P1, it really depends on how many seats are taken up by the current students.

Admission tests/interviews are conducted in mid-Feb each year. I think it is acceptable if you submit your application before end December. You can call up the admission secretary to check.

SIS has a great reading programme for the PYs.  I can see my son benefits from it and his reading competency has soared since the programme starts.    Children are given two Chinese and one English reading books to take home.   These books are graded according to the child's ability.   Children are encouraged to exchange for new ones soon as they complete reading the books by themselves.  So, for those keen readers, they can literally get new ones everyday!    Other than that, children bring home two English and two Chinese library books every week.    I have to say I am impressed by the excellent selection from SIS' library.   The topics are wide and age appropriate, and my son (and I!) just loves mulling over them.

As for homework, PY2s get one set of English & Chinese homework each week.   It takes about one hour to complete both and my son can handle it easily with minimal supervision.

I have moved to Singapore for nearly two years.  I am thinking to relocate to Hong Kong in one or two years time.  My parent is staying in Tai Po.  Do you think it is really too far away for my son to travel from Tai Po to SIS?
