The Chinese classes are divided into 2 streams.
"Chinese for native speakers" (ie CN) and "Chinese as foreign language" (ie CF).
To which class a kid would be put into, totally depends on how much Chinese he/she knows.
Basically the CN classes are meant for those who have had some Chinese lessons before and these classes are taught with 繁體字, and the language of instructions is Putonghua.
CF classes are meant for those who have not had Chinese lessons before or knows very little Chinese, and these classes are taught with 簡體字, and the language of instructions is English.
So basically, no Cantonese is used no matter which class you are in.
By the way, to my surprise, there are quite some western kids (pure western kids, not half Chinese) in CN classes. And on the other hand, there are a also a lot of Chinese kids in the CF classes. |
