我朋友的兒子現在另一所英文小學上學, 而學校參加了Scholastic Book Club, 所以可以定時派發一些訂閱英文圖書的書單給學生, 而所訂閱的書比市面平約1/2或更多, 如今期一套magic tree House Mega Pack(includes books No.1 - 28 & 33 & 34)20本只需約港幣$312, 平均每本約$16.00, 仲而再加送2本近期的magic tree house, 天啊!在書局買平均要$40一本.

其他還有Junie B. Jones Pack(US$19.95/10books), Geronima Stilton(No.36 US$3.95/book), Roald Dahl Pack(US$7.95/3 books).....etc.

但我在網上check過, 由於不做個別會員只做學校Book Club, 所以Voasia老兄下次同學校開會時可否提出參加book club, 既然學校鼓勵學生多看課外書籍, 而家長又可以較平價買到書本, 我想家長, 學校及學生都有得著的.

仲有, 好像如果學生訂單有足夠數量, Book club係會送圖書給學校圖書館的(但這只是聽聞的, 詳情要跟Scholastic那邊查詢)

我這個「買書買到窮」的家長非常支持這個建議
不過，要校方做這些額外工作，不容易啊！
例如，校方也鼓勵學生一人一樂器
但是，去年學生代表學校參加校際音樂比賽時
某些樂器的樂譜斷市了
只能在主辦機構香港學校音樂及朗誦協會去copy
而協會又規定只為會員（即是學校）服務
當時有家長要求校方協助（只不過是派個校工去協會make copy而矣）
但是校方的態度是：你地自己攪惦啦
唉，家長當然不是協會會員，樂器導師亦不一定是協會的個人會員
結果，唯有家長靠自己去托上托周圍刮樂譜copy
所以嘛……集體買書，除非學校有commissions可圖，否則真係唔睇好

Hi, Voasia,我的女兒已經在蔡繼有讀第二年了，她很喜歡這裡學校生活和讀書風氣。有一些很好英文monthly magazines 都很好，e.g Girl Talks , American Girls 和 Story Box, Discovery Box... Junie B. Jones; the Amazing Days of Abby Hayes and Magic Tree House by Mary Pope Osborne ; National Geographic for Kids ... are also her favorites. I need to order / buy them form Bookazines, Bayard and Page One. . If they need help to organise the purchases, I would like to give a hand. Each class parent helper can organise the reading club. I knew that they will give us some free issue / big book for school library.

我極之同意,但相信人力方面要求極大,分Catalogues,分書,consolidate order from students, receive payments, plus special things such as follow up order/missing order, refund, etc.最好 at least 2-3 helpers per class. 這真不是容易的. 想想條數幾複雜.

個人來說,只希望不可要老師參與其中,因為她們是主力教導小朋友,她們應該花心機在教育方面.如果因為了慳些錢要scarify小朋友學習的時間,真的要考慮清楚.

其實一直以來我都有請我的朋友代我訂書, 只是今年我覺可能把這建議post上來給學校考慮一下, 並沒有深入考慮到會加重老師的workload, 看見塞曼莎的post之後, 我到Scholastic網站查看過, 找到Scholastic香港的代理, 我會將大家的提問逐一查清楚.

當然, 最重要仍是不要為老師添加額外的工作量, 因為他們的工作量已經是超乎常人了.

We all spend money and time searching for books, then is the storage problem...How about organising some 2nd hand book fair so that used books from higher class can sell to lower class readers. Then it can solve some of the above problems and everybody would be happy.

It is a good idea. It may also help whatever the PTA or school to raise fund.

But, I just worried about not too many children like to donate his/her books. As a Reader Lover like our kids, Book is their Life.

I read your posts and most of them are talking about ordering and buying of books. I wonder if we can also think about optimizing the use of the school library? If the library can do a good job in providing good resources of readers, magazines and books and make them available for kids' regular borrowing, it can not only save parents' money but can also develop their habits of visiting the library and select books by themselves. On the other hand, we may also think of some ways of tracking the reading history, esp if you have a reading system / plan for the kids. You know, stocking up books at home without limit can be a "well without bottom" forever....(but my wallet has a "bottom" and my home has limited storage space too...)

孩子好像比較少到學校的圖書館，可能因為自己班房已有圖書的關係。若學校可以每周定期到圖書館閱讀課外書的話，可能會令使用率提升。

為解決買書買到窮，同埋有書無掟罷的問題，現在多是到公共圖書館借閱。可興幸的是，圖書館都頗近住所。

Just received the order form of Scholastic Book Club yesterday.
It appears that the price is not discounted at all.

Say for the "my litttle pony" book that normally costs HK$35 from book stores. It charges US$3.95 X11=HK$43.45 by mail order.
