Hi there,

Does any Mum & Dad know about what the interview at KCIS would be like ? Cos' my daughter has applied
Primary 2 for this coming September and she will be having her interview with the Head Teacher on next Monday
(13th Aug.).

The only thing I've been informed is that my daughter
would be asked on questions like Maths. But I have no
idea what kind of Maths questions would be like.

Since my daughter just finished her K3 at a local
kindergarten this summer, I wonder if she could manage
to pass the interview.  Cos' international school won't let
her do Primary 1 according to her age. She is 6 years old now.

If anyone knows any related information about this
school, esp. on interviews about P.2, please let me know
as soon as possible.

Thnak you!

Hi! gbcc_mang

Is KSIS the same as KCIS?

In international school, P2 is equivalent to Local school P1, so I guess the Maths they ask will be simply addition o subtraction. Won't be too difficult, your daughter can manage.

Btw, may I know which kinder your daughter went to and when did you apply for KSIS?

Hi junmom,

Thanks for your information. Yeah, you're right ! It's KCIS not KSIS!!! I made a big mistake on the name of the
school. Gosh! You can tell how nervous I am before the
interview!

My daughter finished her K3 at Creative Kindergarten
(啟思). I applied the KCIS around May/June this year. And before I
submitted the application form, I called to the office and
the staff told me that I need to queue for the place of P.2.
And they said that there were already 20ish application
letters there. So I just sent mine as well afterwards.

Do you have any kids studying at IS? Thanks for your
sharing.

Hi gbcc_mang,

I don't have any kids studying in IS, but if my daughter     doesn't enjoy studying in local school ( for she will go to   famous local school P.1 this September), I may transfer  her to KCIS. May I know why you choose KCIS? And can you share what's the interview about?

Wish you good luck!

Hi junmom,

What a big relief! My daughter finally finished her interview.
It was such a great experience to both of my daughter and myself.

The Head Teacher, Mrs. Daniel, is really a nice lady. First of all, she asked my daughter to go into her room to sit for an interview for about 10-15 minutes all on her own.
Then she would have a chat with me, telling me what she had been asking my daughter to do and how she was doing during the interview.

So, here are the few things the Head Teacher had been asking my daughter to do:

1/. giving her 1-2 short sentences to read, if she's able
to read them all, an even longer sentence would be given

2/. shapes and colours would be asked by pictures given

3/. simple questions would be asked, eg. her name, her age, etc.

4/.  free drawing (anything your kid would like to draw)

Mrs. Daniel said that for the place of P.2 this year, there would be 4 candidates (including my daughter) fighting for1 place only. So........

As far as my daughter had been putting much effort
before and during the interview, she had really tried her best. So, I would never blame her if she didn't get a place finally.

Mrs. Daniel told us that we should know the result by
tomorrow.

BTW, junmom, may I ask which school your daughter will be going this September?

Hi gbcc_mang,

Thanks for sharing what the interview's about! It definitely helps alot!

My daughter will go to Marymount Primary School this     September. Though parents who have daughters studying in  MPS told me that the workload is not heavy at all        compare to other schools. They only have tests, no        exam (for the first 3 years), I still worry she can't
manage.

Waiting to hear your good news!

Hi junmom,

No phone-call from the KCIS today. I think the place might have been given to other candidate.

Never mind! As Mrs. Daniel said that if we failed to get a place this time, she would put my daughter on the top of the waiting list and once if any students withdraw or transfer to other school, they would inform us immediately.

Better luck next time!

Hi junmom,

I called to the office of KCIS yesterday and they told me that there would be one more candidate coming to have interview on this Friday (ie. tomorrow).

So, the office will inform me by Monday morning the latest. This time would be five candidates fighting for 2 places.Wish me luck! Or else my daughter will definitely go to Chan's Creative School (啟基學校), which is also an ideal school to us with loving and caring atmosphere, in September.

However, if we have a choice between KCIS and Chan's, of course we'll choose KCIS. Cos' KCIS is a through-train school and I like its small size class while Chan's is not a through-train school and its far distance is also our next concern.

Btw, I also like Marymount Primary School. If my daughter hasn't got hearing impairment, I'll definitely try this one.

Congratulations to your daughter, junmom! Don't worry too much, I'm sure your daughter will be able to manage.

Hi gbcc_mang,

Congratulations! You guys must be very happy!

So now you are busy preparing for her new school, did Mrs.Daniel show you around the school? What do you think?

Do you speak English to your daughter?  Can she read the sentences Mrs. Daniel gave her?

Hi junmom,

Thanks!

It was the staff of the office who informed me that my daughter got a place in P.2. She told me that once I've got the acceptance letter, I need to go to do the registration by next Thursday the latest. And there would be an orientation by the end of this month.

I don't need to buy the whole lot of new books again as they would be supplied by the school and the cost is already included within the school fees. Also, I was informed that stationery would also be provided by the school and no need to bring by students.

Amazing, isn't it? I'm really looking forward my daughter to studying in this school.

Btw, I usually speak Cantonese to my daughter except a few days before when she'll be having an interview with the IS. :

As I was told by Mrs. Daniel, yes, my daughter can read the first two sentences with no problem at all, but not quite with the third one.

So, junmom, which kindergarten did your daughter study before?

Hi gbcc_mang

But did you buy any books and uniforms for Chan's Creative? (becoz you planned to go there before the interview) I know that KCIS students don't have to buy any books and stationary, it's all included. Even their ECA are free of charge too! I feel so happy for you!:

My daughter went to Precious Blood KG. It's an activity-oriented kg, so not too much hw and their level is a bit low compare to other kg. That's why I'm worried my daughter can't fit into MPS as my daughter doesn't like to do hw and not good in dictations. Is Creatvie's Kindergarten in English medium or chinese medium? Do you read story books to your daughter? Can your daughter recognize a lot of words?

Hi junmom,

You're right! I've already bought new books and paid for the uniforms (as I need to collect them on another day of school orientation) of Chan's Creative. Btw, what is ECA?

Creative Kindergarten is mainly Chinese medium. They only have English lessons three times a week. However, my daughter had joined the Phonics class which was organised by the same kindergarten every Monday after school. At Creative kinder, they also had dictations (they would rather call it memory games) on both Chinese and English. My daughter is better in recognizing Chinese words comparing to the English ones. She used to have homework everyday and the hw load at her kinder was reasonable.

Oh yeah, I used to read bed-time stories to my kids, both my elder son and my daughter, since they were babies. They love it so much that even now, including my 10-year-old son, are still looking forward to it every night.

Hi gbcc_mang,

ECA is extra-curricular activities. As I know, you don't have to pay any of those as long as they have vacancies. So what are you going to do with the textbooks for Chan's Creative?

When did you apply for KCIS? How come the interview was in August?

Btw, which school does your son go to?

Hi junmom,

Thanks for your information.

My son is studying at St. Stephen's College Preparatory School. He will be in Primary 5 after this summer.

As I mentioned before earlier, I applied the KCIS around May this year. And before I
submitted the application form, I called to the office and
the staff told me that I need to queue for the place of P.2,
