Are international school children's Math normally weaker than that of local students??

International schools dont force kids to learn so if your kid does not like Math, he will lag behind.

Also they wont go in depth on each topic, simply touch the surface, and that is why the standard seems to be lower than local schools'.

完全不正確。

其實這個問題，以往都討論過可多次了，可以試找找舊 topics。

本地小學學生，主要係操練題目，目的亦係要做得快，即係要盡快寫個答案出黎；當然，亦缺少不了 "學習" 各式各樣的 tricky 文字題目。

國際小學教 math 的方法，好少會令孩子唔鍾意 math。
老師會先將孩子的數學基礎鞏固，因此，小學的 math，的確教得慢。因為，每一個概念，如加數，減數，乘數，除數，點數，份數，等，都會係慢慢教，教得清清楚楚。學校不是認為做題目的 "速度" 不重要，相反，孩子會在基本數學概念鞏固後，慢慢就開始鍛鍊提升做題目的速度，和見識一些比較 challenging 的 word problems。

其實，國際學校中學的數學，尤其高中的，跟本地學校都差不遠了。

我在外國讀書的經驗係，我們港式教育訓練出來的 "數學機器" ，在高中都重可以嚇到下人，但到大學或以上的高層次數學，我估我自己以往的港式操練，就再幫唔到我。

睇睇你要的係乜，如果你要孩子細細個就 "快人一步"，例如越早學乘數除數越好，國際學校未必幫到你。
但如果你認同數學基本概念的重要性，咁國際學校唔會另你失望，不過就要預了比三姑話 " 下？乜咁大個都未學除數？國際學校 d 數學真係咁差咩？"

I have to disagree with you on that.
If you look at the maths paper of most local schools (and stndardised tests like TSA for P3) you will find that the whole paper (every question in the case of my daughter's school) is full of word problems and tricky questions.\
Hardly any simple calculation is given and that's why most parents in local schools find Kumon not helpful as it focuses on speed and accuracy.
It is not as easy as you think. The curiculum for maths in local schools is tough and demanding both in breadth and in depth.
