Re: 港大同學會的家長們請進來傾傾!!
My daughter attended the English Speech competition yesterday & an unfortunate event happened. Just want to share with every mum whose children would participate in the Speech Festival this year as a reminder.
According to the competition’s schedule, my husband & daughter arrived the site (8/F, Recital Hall, City Hall) on time at 1:45 pm. The officer at the Hall entrance, however, told them that it was fully occupied and they could not go in. He also said (there were some other competitors and their parents/guardians too) that the whole competition would take almost two hours to complete and requested them to come back later at an appropriate timing. Given that my daughter was the last one to present in the competition, my husband took her to the library on the 2/F for some reading and returned to the site at around 2:45 pm. This time the officer told them that there were still more than 30 competitors not yet presented. He did not let them go in and requested them to return some time later. They went down to the 2/F library again and then returned at around 3:15 pm. The officer however informed them that my daughter’s turn has just passed but he, anyway, scheduled her in for the competition. When the competition was over, my daughter’s marking sheet was returned without any mark on it. The reason for no mark (and no certificate) being given was because she was late for the competition! They immediately explained to the adjudicator assistant the reason for missing the call was because we were not allowed to enter the hall, but was ignored. My daughter ended up being unreasonably disqualified!
We have already drafted a letter to complain to HKSMSA. Well, we don’t expect anything from them but I want to remind all mums to arrive the site early to secure your entrance. If they do not allow you to enter the site, insist. If you still cannot enter, do not leave the place. Wait until you are allowed to enter. I hope this unfortunate event won’t happen to any other child again. Luckily, my daughter was not upset at all because of the disqualification. Maybe she does not understand yet. She was happy that she had participated & made the recital, and of course I gave her a small present afterwards as a reward for having tried her best!
Yvomak,
Of course not all the mums in HKUGA are full time mom. I myself am not. I know a lot of working mums in the school, and in 1C, but all of them tried their best to participate in the volunteer work and school events.
Carltonmama, 一仔媽,
I will also go to the Friday meeting. See you there.
Carltonmama, thanks for the fax. I still do not know your face yet, maybe I can ask一仔媽 on Friday.
一仔媽, thanks for the reminder on英文每曰一篇. I will ring them up for the id & password. Do you have their no.?
