We see Dr T in Wanchai. I think we don't have any choice in Hong Kong. For our case Dr T has helped a lot already with the tests we did with him. I know some people seek famous DAN! doctors in the US. We didn't go for that route because first we can't really afford it, second, the extent to which children can recover do not dependent much on "doctors" but the reasons causing the children having autism in the first place, if parents have identified the right treatments and how responsive the children are to these treatments. I know friends of mine flying to the US to see Dr. S Baker several times a year, their son's has improved but still remain on the severe side on the spectrum.
My son has attention issue, he can "space out" sometime in classes, but can remain attentive most of the time. My son doesn't exhibit AD/HD symptoms. A lot of attention issues are related to sensory issues - so addressing the sensory issues will help.
For GAPS diet - see Dr. Campbell's book below and search on web. But this is not a diet for the long term (too much protein may cause ammonia issue). My son has been on for 9 months, I need to start gradually introducing rice to him as I feel his gut has mostly been healed and he is on a growth spur so having no carb in his diet at all makes him getting hungry very quickly.
For those who want to know more about biomedical treatments, here is a good, simple summary: https://www.autism.com/pdf/providers/adams_biomed_summary.pdf
I have read some books that have been recommended for biomedical treatments for Autism, and found the followings very helpful:
Epidemics: Autism, ADHD, Asthma, and Allergies : Dr Kenneth Bock
Children with starving brains: J. McCandless
The autism revolution: Martha Herbert
Autism : Have We Done Everything We Can for This Child?: Effective Biomedical Treatments: S Baker
Books on Diet:
Gut and Psychology Syndrome by N. Campbell-McBride
Nourishing Hope for Autism
The Kid-friendly ADHD&Autism cookbook
I also read stuff from Amy Yasko (they are free e-books available online) - it is useful to do a 23andme genetic test and go to one of her websites that can convert the results and her website can generate a long list of supplements based on your child genetics. For my son's case, we don't follow 100% her recommendations. Many of her suggested supplements overlapped in terms of ingredients, and I believe if I gave my son everything she recommended on her list then some maybe overdose (which happened to my son on lithium and molybdenum).
For supplements, the brand, dosage, timing giving the child, the mix of supplements, all impact the effectiveness of the treatments.
Autistic children usually have one or more issues with the following so biomedical treatments really aim to address them one by one:
Leaky Gut
Brain inflammation
Impaired Methylation cycle
Immune system dysfunction
Mitochondrial dysfunction
Oxidative stress
Inability to produce glutathione and detox properly
For my son, he has issues with the top three in the list, but things have improved with biomedical treatments.
There are the websites that I visit frequently to see other people's experience:
