How about using "reverse engineering" to think backward about this. A good school with good academic results has no magic to "turn" her students to achieve the good results. The students must work harder/smarter to get the good results. If SFA has top tier academic results, that means her students must work harder than most other to achieve this. So, "谷" could be a subjective feeling but the hard work still has to be done regardless.
