InitialD,

first of all, CWBS has 120 seats.

CWBS Y1 applications: 210
category 1: 160
category 2: 50

KJS Y1 applications: 340
category 1: 190
category 2: 150

can anyone share similar info from SJS ...

I wonder how u get these no.
If these are true, seems no chance for cat 2 applicants unless cat 1 applicants fail (really difficult to fail) or give up the place.

oooray,

the info from CWBS was given by the vice principal during their information session on 5 Nov 2009.

and info from KJS was given from the admission secretary Ms. Jim via phone enquiry.

That means even Cat. 2 ESF kinder applicants will have slim chance; if all Cat 1 Applicants pass the interview and accept the offer.
Of course, Cat 1 applicants from ESF kinder are doubled counted in this simple subtraction...
That may be the reason why so many applicants rush to RC this year, assuming quite a big portion are ESF kinder Cat. 2 applicants.

InitialD,

thanks so much for the rough statistics on ESF K2 students, look at this 450 figure, wild guess would be RC 1st round interview 350 applicants most of them are from ESF kindy.

Many thanks to cocobean225 for sharing the application numbers! Maybe a bit late for this year's applicant to change address.  However, this provides good hints for K1 parents to plan ahead. Does anyone have the numbers for any other ESF primary schools?

I remembered the vice-principal of one ESF primary (HK side) said that the 2009 entrants came from 70+ different kindergartens.  If there were 4 or 5 (may be) ESF kindergartens, they still have around 65 came from non-ESF kindergartens.  However, I once read that all YMCA International kindegartens applicants got 100% acceptance into RC, just a few to ESF.  That may give you a better picture if you are doing your math.

Thank you so much for your data.
It seems that:
1) if you are cat 2, no matter from esf or non-esf kinder=> no or small chance to get into ESF primary school.
2) if you are cat 1+ esf kinder => sure win
3) it you are cat 1+non-esf kinder still stand a chance if you are lucky.

It is too late to know the rule. Good luck for those new comers.

InitialD,

very good interpretation, but I still have some queries on how they define category 1 and 2. Very likely the categorization is done by computer programs by picking up info from certain fields on the application form, but honestly, some parents may not fill out ALL / TRUE information on the form though.
As far as I know, many kids from ESF kindy they do attend another local kindergarten in AM/PM session, but they may not reflect such info on the form that they can actually go back to local stream schools (category 2).

From my understanding from ESF official website:
1. Cat. 1 applicants always have the priority for interview. So, Cat 1 applicant always comes first, no matter which kinder they come from (even not study in a kindergarten). They will fill up the vacancies of interview (there will be a very little chance of not passing the interview);
2. The rest to be filling up with Cat 2 applicants, within the priority of siblings, ESF kinder applicants;
3. Non-ESF kinder applicants are always at the end of the queue. From last year's experience, only a few of them got an interview offer in the first round; so don't be disappointed if you will be one of the group;
4. Cat 1/2 categorization :
Category One
Children who speak English as a first or alternative language but donot speak Cantonese and/or read and write Chinese characters.

It seems irrelavant to which kinder you filled in the form.

Of course, what will be the consequences of false declaration? Take your own risks.

In the esf web site
"Category One

*I don't expect 4 years old local kid can write but should able to talk in Cantonese unless have learning problem=>definitely will put in Cat 2.

my daughter is currently studying K1 in an ESF kinder, as told from her class teacher, most of the students in ESF kinder move onto an ESF primary (saying more than 95%). so is the chance of ESF kinder's cat 2 kids getting into an ESF primary that slim??
