In previous years, the interviews ended in mid-Nov, more or less the same time as this year's.  The results would be announced at the last school day before X'mas, i.e. around 18 Dec this year.  A long time would be given for registration, only by sending a reply slip back to the school by mid-Jan.  You don't need to worry that you would be out of town during X'mas/New year, unless you'll be travelling for a whole month!

I heard that last year, a girl with 2 parents being doctors got rejected.....so maybe parent's background is not that decisive...

To accept the offer of a place last year, we had to send a reply slip to school before 12 Jan, no need to pay deposit/sch fees.  Then parents meeting in mid Feb.

For those studying P1 this year,  can parents share some school life with us ?   How's the student and parent's workload ?    Do basically all students join tutor groups outside ?   Are there particular NEGATIVE or POSITIVE things about the school, management or teachers  you can share with people here ?

I assume the English teachers are native speakers.  Are those general subject teachers  also English native speakers ?

I wish the English teacher is Native speaker but to my very disappointment, she is not, not to mention the other subjects. Well, my daughter said the computer teacher is native speaker In fact, I don't even have a chance to meet the English or any other teachers except the class teachers on the briefing day.
Don't expect too much from the school. I don't have a very good impression of the school except the students they selected are indeed ...above average.

I understand that most of the famous school are are reliable on parents.  Good academic is not from school, is from the family support.

Can you elaborate why you 'do not have a very good impression of the school'?

My girl is in P.2.  I don't have any negative feeling at all.  Not heavy workload (may be much heavier starting from P.3), less than expected pressure (unless you like to compare with other parents), friendly parents (over 90% of them are friendly and nice), happy girls (really happy indeed).

Whether the students need to take outside tutorials is purely a matter of personal choice.  I don't send my girl to any such tutorials.  It's however a common phenomenon in most schools in HK, not only for elite schools.

Perhaps one negative point that I can think of now is the lack of NET.  There's only one NET who is not a standing subject teacher.  I think she is just responsible for one or two lessons when the girls go to the computer lab.

That's what I heard so.  As long as the parents don't compare results all the time, then basically  girls studying there are enjoying their school life.

About there isn't any NET in the school, I do believe most local schools in HK are having minimal NET support, as those high quality NET teachers would probably work for international schools.    Unless the school employs NET for teaching every subject, otherwise, mostly students attain quality English likely thru channels other than the school, e.g. watching/listening English news, programs, newspapers etc.

So I'm not surprised to see poor comments regarding the proficiency of spoken English and written English of the students studying in those famous and elite schools.

Thanks for your sharing.
- Do you think the girls are elite or above average (like the above post mentioned)?
- Do you think you will still choose DGJS if time can go back?
- How do you compare DGJS to SPCC (if you do know about SPCC)?
Thanks a lot.

It is the beginning of my daughter's primary education at DGJS, I do not have any negative feeling, she is enjoying school, she is happy with her classmates, not much homework, but I do reading with her as well as revision for dictation & test.
I got to meet the class teacher a few times for the first week of school, parents were allowed to go into the classroom.  There was also a PTA meeting when parents also were able to meet the class teacher again.  I sometimes see the P.1 class teachers taking students down from classrooms to covered playground after school and there is chance that parents picking up students be able to speak to their class teachers.
I was once got a call from a subject teacher about my daughter's progress & weakness, she gave me advice on how to have that improved which was appreciated.
Regarding the NET, they do not necessarily have the western appearance but still they were brought up & educated from an English speaking country.  As I have also read through all the teachers' qualifications, I have no doubt about it, instead I feel that giving more time and support to my daughter is equally important.

AC2002,

The term "elite schools" is merely a generic term for those so-called famous schools referred to by people in HK.  I don't have any intention whatsoever to label the students there as elites, though most of them are above average in one or more of certain aspects, e.g. academics, confidence, presentation skills, etc.

I don't know SPCC in details (but of course know that it is an excellent school) and so can't make a fair comparison between the two.  All I know that my daughter loves DGS more.  So even if she was so lucky to have been granted both offers, I think I would leave it to her to make the call, which means she would pick DGJS.

I saw one on Nov 2 during 2nd in.  It must be some kind of culture for CCKG student to wear uniform to interviews.    Interesting !!

Branding effect?  Like using LV or Gucci?
