Thanks for your comment on IAS.

Today one BK member mentioned that at least the following schools in HK have participated in this assessment.

包括DBS、DGS、St Jo、聖心、Creative、VSA、
St Mary、油天、保良局的學校，及一些國際學校如CIS。

If this is correct, the results of TSL's pupils are quite representative.

prize-winners of 2007, we can see actually there are a lot more participating schools.

幾年前住ｎｓｗ時，如無記錯，知道多間私校都有參加ＩＡＳ，朋友囡囡攞ｄｉｓｔｉｎｃｔｉｏｎ己叫好好成績，覺得好光榮．舊年囡囡話班中攞Ｄ及ＨＤ都好普遍，可想而知香港小朋友的水平真係好高！！！

But I think our children still need to catch up more in Chinese subject and a bit in Maths.

Dear all,

It’s that time of the year again!!

We wish all TSL pupils, parents, teachers, staff and the Principal a very merry Christmas.

Meanwhile, some new photos taken at the Christmas party were just uploaded to the school website.
Have a look.

We can see some snowy effect on the school website as well.
However, the snow this year is very tiny, not as big as those in previous year.

Anyhow, please enjoy our holidays!!

Dear all,

Most of us are very quiet these days!!

23 new videos shot on the Chinese Day Talent Show have just been uploaded to the Campus TV section of the school website.
Have a look.

All of their performance are great.
In particular, I like the performance of 2B and 4D.

Did you notice the no. of worksheets this year,
esp this term ?
(I mean the lack of worksheets vs past few years, instead of an abundance of worksheets.)

Frankly, I'm a bit worried.

To be honest, I did not count the number of worksheets for this term/academic year and compare it to that of last academic year.

However, purely based on my guesstimate, I think the number of worksheets for Maths and G.S. is more or less the same as last year.
For English, I think there has been a bit less creative writing but more chance to write “My Voice” for P.3
On the contrary, I feel that there have been more exercises for Chinese, especially the TSA exercises. May be your child does not need to do the TSA exercises this year.

Although most children these days do not like to listen to their own parents and do not want to do extra exercises given by their parents, I think we still need to use the
“carrot-or-stick” approach to make them do it.

Meanwhile, please check PM.

I also notice that.

For me ---
P1 is fine.
P.4 has too little english worksheets.  And the english dictation seems too simple for P4. kids.

How about other grades?

Principal,

I know we should put quality over quantity.
And I forgot that your kid being in P3 has more exercises in preparation for TSA. But the work for P4 is way too little.

Would prefer more to less, if given a choice here.
Should not be hypnotized by good language (esp Engl) skills and boast too much. Should remain humble, then one can learn more.

(Forgive me for being slightly philosophical about it suddenly.

)

Yes, I agree with you.

Now it's a question of whether the school should give more exercises for the pupils to do or the parents should give more worksheets for their children to practise.

Dear all,

Haven't watched movie for quite long time.

Highly recommend "Slumdog Millionaire" to all of you.

No wonder this movie has won so many Oscar awards recently.

Have a look. It's really a great movie!!

Heidi媽,

Yes, don't miss it.

If possible, we better bring our children to watch it to let them see that there are millions of children in other countries who are still struggling for very basic livelihood, not to mention various fancy toys that our children can get rather easily.
Let our children understand that many things do not come so easily.

Personally, I think it is not appropriate to use the word “Slumdog” but somehow the director chose it in order to dramatize the poverty depicted in the movie.

我都想同小朋友去睇呢部電影, 希望佢地可以體會下什麼是貧窮, 請佢地講下看完的感想.

題外話: 現今香港的小朋友真是太受保護, 飯來張口, 衣來張手, 連想飲杯水都只會叫"姐姐"斟, 自理能力....

教育小朋友之餘, 做父母又成日反省, 自問小朋友每日放學後是否千篇一律的沖涼食晚飯, 跟住就做功課,溫默書, 練樂器等.....跟住又會叫佢地早d睡覺, 因明日一早要返學. 在平日的生活上, 我地又真係扼殺了很多讓他們自學與思考的機會.......

Yes, this is the current dilemma of a lot of families in HK.

On one hand, we need to assist our children to catch everyday’s tight deadline of taking bath, finishing the dinner and homework, doing revision and practicing of musical instruments.
On the other hand, we would like our children to shoulder certain responsibility of self-management but are very often compromised due to the limited available time left.

Nevertheless, I think we should try to squeeze at least 15 minutes every evening on weekdays to let our children do something that they really want (e.g. reading books, drawing pictures or writing something) that is not within the routine schedule.
Then, their creativity will not be hindered too much.

Would you pls tell me if our child should spell all the words in GS test and exam. in P2 2nd term or from P3 onwards?

For G.S. in P2 and (at least) in first term in P3, normally a list of words/answers will be provided to the pupils to choose from. In other words, the pupils may not need to spell all the words.

However, it will be better for the pupils to know how to spell the words earlier as sooner or later, they need to know the spelling of more words when they are promoted to senior grades.
