Hello 各位 ICS 家長:

ICS一向係我心儀學校, 想同bb出年報他們的kindergarten. 請問, 讀ICS之前, 你們小朋友係讀甚麼2歲斑? 係咪要揀啲全英語2歲斑?

同埋, 你地係咪會比小朋友直上佢地小學? 唔知有冇家長會計劃比小朋友小學轉反其他本地學校?

My girl also study in R1A too, can share?

Just received the questionnaire last Fri, is compulsory to do volunteer? i want to do it , but i have a little one baby need to takecare, just afraid no time to do jar

During R2, ICS-Kindergarten will inform you that parents can apply for P1 (Pre-grade 1) but this is optional. If you prefer your kids to apply for P1, they need to take an examination as same as those applicants who are not ICS students.

As a tradition of ICS, this is not just a school but also ICS is big family inculding parents. So all parents are welcome to be volunteer for different activities but of course this is not compulsory.

我都好鍾意ICS,我從來無諗過學校會用聖經做主題去教學,真係大開眼界,老師同學校都好好,感謝主為我地的女女預備左好學校. 可惜我工作需要唔可以平日來學校, 學校活動都要hubby去呢!

Hi, I think you are Jne's mom, is it? I'm Ashley's mom. Ashley have told me about Jne too. She likes to play with girls.
I and my hubby can't do the volunteer work although I hope I could. I've returned the questionair to Ms. Gurung. It should be OK.

想了解一下，R1會唔會接受細仔申請(是否要足3歲)？我見ics網好似要夠3歲才可以入讀，對嗎？

parents need to buy debentures when the child enter elementary. No need to buy in kinder.

想請問各位 , 小兒在另一間幼稚園讀國際班 , 想在小學時入讀ICS 的P1 , 不知外校生考進ICS的成功率高嗎?

ICS Academic Standards

It seems that there are lots of good comments and recommendations for ICS. Most people I have talked to speak very highly of ICS as well.

My girl is 2 years old now and we are considering her K1 options. ICS is on our list. Like many other parents, we are also weighing between ICS vs. other Band 1 local/DSS schools, e.g. DGS, HYS, etc. I am not quite sure how to choose between them. For example, what are the chances of getting into DGS if my girl ends up in ICS R1, R2 and Pre-Grade 1? Alternatively, what are the chances if my girl goes to St. Cat/CCKG and then try Pre-Grade 1 at ICS?

In addition, I have the following reservations for ICS:

- Many parents praise ICS' academic standard, however, when I look at where (which college) their G12 kids end up, I realize that very few of them end up at the top tier colleges in the US (e.g. Ivy Leagues). Based on the feedback I heard, I was expecting that there should be a lot of them ended up in renowned schools, but that's not the case. I personally know many graduates from Band 1 local schools (e.g. DGS, DBS, QC, etc) who end up in the top schools in UK and US. (Stanford, Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, Penn, Columbia, etc...)

- I like ICS' arts program, but I am concerned about ICS' math and science standards. It seems that it would be much worse compared to the local Band 1 schools. For example, when I was in the US for my undergraduate studies, I found that I have learnt most of the first year Calculus during HKCEE (not even HKALE). If ICS is like a US high school, then its math and science academic standard would be much lower compare to the local Band 1 schools.

Any insights/comments?

We are a christian family and we like ICS as well. We like the christian element a lot. On the other hand, both my husband and I are very concerned about academics. We have very high expectations for academic rigor - not in terms of exam results - but in terms of ability for analytical thinking, and quantitative analysis and ability for independent problem solving. Both my husband and I grew up in local Band 1 school and end up in Ivy League schools for our undergraduate and graduate studies, we hated many things about the local system and yet we found that the local system provided an rigorous opportunity to develop very high analytical skills especially during secondary education. I am not quite sure if ICS would provide something better or at least similar.

Would appreciate any insights/comments especially from ICS parents who have college bound kids in ICS.

I've asked the office before, the lady told me that every year, ICS elementary will receive around 70 P1 students and more than 50 of them are come from ICS R2. That's why I let my girl go to ICS kinder now (I'd like her to go to ICS from elementary since she was studying in another kinder and we live in HK island)
