Re: 根德園,st catherine ,兩間都收,唔知讀邊間!
Dear Melody,
Your statement that "St Catherines is much better" based on the assertion that pupils from this kinder can enter "the famous primary schools in Kowloon Tong" is misleading. This is no offense, but I want to point out the problems of saying such a statement.
1. "Most of my friends' s kids got into La Salle & DPS for boys and Maryknoll & St Rose of Lima' s for girls." This is 以偏蓋全. There are more than 2000 pupils for the 2 campuses of St. Catherine, roughly 680 pupils for each year. So how many friends' kids are you referring to? What I am trying to say is, for a large kinder like St. Catherine, it is normal to have some pupils being admitted to good schools. What is significant might be, the % of pupils being admitted to good primary school when compared to another kinder of a similar size (in this case, it is the Kentville). Because Kentville also has some students being admitted to the Kowloon Tong schools you mentioned (La Salle & DPS for boys and Maryknoll & St Rose of Lima' s for girls), I can just change the name "St. Catherine" to "Kentville" and the sentence is equally true. So when you say one is better than the other, but you are not putting forward any genuine evidence.
2. "famous primary schools ....DPS" - Well DPS may be a famous primary school, but we have also heard from the news that this year, some parents with their children allocated to this school were also dissatisfied. They were shocked to know that this year (04/05), less than 2/3 of the P6 students were admitted to DBS. So some of the parents were running up and down to find out other DSS schools (with a secured secondary school, or thru-train) even after they have been given a place in DPS. In another thread in this forum, you can find the sad story of the present DPS students.

3. All the primary schools you mentioned (La Salle, DPS, Maryknoll & St Rose of Lima) are aided schools. Aided and government schools are allocated without regard to the kinder the child is attending (First round, points-system; second round, residential address and random allocation). I do not see your point of studying in St. Catherine will carry a better chance of entering these schools. If you had said the children from St. Catherine had a better chance of entering APS, SFA, etc, then you would have made a point. Because private schools are free to choose their own students. But I do not see your point here.
I can only agree with you that Ansonmom is lucky to have both schools accepting her son (I presume Anson is a boy).
I do not agree with you St. Catherine is a better choice.
Declaration: I have children who have studied both - St. Catherine and Kentville. Both are good. They are different. Both of them are of high standard. Other factors (like school fees, school bus route etc) may come into play since the choice of which kinder is a difficult one. |
