hey, but no offence here.
i think SPC is a good school.  i like the culture of the school.  headmistress has passion in educating young kids, teachers are young and look professional too.

I'm pleased to know that the headmistress herself joins this action and goes together with the other teachers, parents and social workers and visits those poor students in China.

For me, that's the real "EDUCATION" instead of JUST purely looking for academic excellence.

I think the school will announce the donation plan of stationary, books and sundries. I'll absolutely support it.

Hi Pumbaa,
That's it. I appreciate this school always look for opportunities for students to expand their horizon. Instead of always marks, marks & marks, they really broaden a kid's perception of the world around him and develop correct societal value. This is so much so important as the pure academic-driven side. If you have time, you can go to the SPC (secondary) website. The principal Dr. J Kennard posted up his speeches in the morning assembly on it. Apart from the contents which are interesting and enlightening, he has used simple English to enable all students to read them. I ask my son to read them which is helpful both for his personal development as well as written English. :D

I know the parents (my colleagues) of 3 kids who have graduated from SP boys but failed to go back to SP secondary school.  Their kids are now in F.1 in other CMI school.  I am a bit worry as these parents always complain that the teacher did not teach and leave the teaching task to the parents.  She has to teach the subject again every night.  I want to know if this is true just in the past.    I've heard both very good and very bad comment of this school.  My son will be in K3 in Sept and I wonder if this school is suitable for him, who is clever but cannot sit still in the classroom for too long.  He need some encouragement (e.g. verbal praise, a stamp or some small gift, or sense of achievement etc) for better learning.

my opinion is

1, why they failed to go back to SPC. All three of them? school problem or parent problem or other issue? we can't judge the school by hearing this.  we need to see the fact, like the school report of the kids.

2, there is no guarantee on a seat from P6 to F1 in SPC.  there are no "one dragon" yet.

3, almost all parents in HK need to teach their children at home. some even hired 3 to 5 tutors for their children.  That's what we called "parents peer pressure".

4, agree on there are bad and good comment of the school floating in the air.  But I would like to ask you the following questions.  Whether you want you kid to study

a, a famous traditional school
b, a school you can show off
c, a school that teaching idea you admired
d, a school that your kid likes
e, a school with good track record
f, or a school you comfortable with

5, all Kids like encouragement, i think Principal Chan is a very good lady on children education if you see her interview with kids.

6, again, there is no guaranteed.  both parents and school need to invest their time on our kids growth

Yes, all three failed to go back to SPC.  One of them is on the waiting list (little brother of non-identical twins) but the mother decide not to "knock" as she said she's "suffered" enough.  She has 3 kids and every night she supervised 3 kids hw.  She said she often have to do corrections again and again but never know the correct answers.   One of the writing done by her was published under her sons name.  Of course, she may be a little bit too objective as the other parent never complains anything about the school.

I have another friend whose twins have got into St Paul Co-ed.  She has positive comments on school.  She said the parent can follow what is being taught and assess in the school.

Of course, to be more objective, I think we need to learn more from different parents who have different views.  I can see there are so many positive comments on the school after the school change to DSS.  Hope to hear more sharing.

This is not hard to understand.  Which case sounds easier?  To take care of three kids of two year levels or to take care of two kids of the same year level?

I always remind myself that : "世上沒有不濟的孩子, 只有懶的父母."  Parental support is a vital part in a child's learning life.

Hi Avis,

let me share with you my experience from last sept.

Same as other parents, we applied many many DSS and private schools for my boy.  Same as other, my prime choice is St Paul Co-ed la. show off ma. :)

But after all the interviews we have, talking with different parents and friends.  We then can decide which school is good for my boy.

I mean "good for my boy" including, my son must like the school, I also like the school and most important whether my boy is capable to follow the standard of the school.  My son is very lucky which he can have multi good choices.

Eventually, we decided to pick SPC.  reasons:
1, Principal Chan has a talk with my son's KG, I concur her point of education
2, thru the interview arrangement, I see no "unfair and privilege" arrangement.
3, understand that after the DSS, the school is turning better as my primary school time
4, he has seven other classmates admit to this school. some are his good friends in KG.
5, I am prepared to spend my time to walk with him

these are one of a hundred experience.  almost every one is the same.  The most important is how you handle your expectation.  Kids have limited expectation except the extreme we see on TV news.

talk to more people but please do not compare school by school.  and compare other kids to yours.  only think about your kids need

Andrewpapa,
It's so kind of you to share your precious experimence to me, who is going to do similar things in this sept.  I am really happy to meet a parent who is well prepared to spend my time to walk with the son.  I appreciate the words of wisdom shared among parents for making a difference in the future of the kids.
It's only a start to me in search informations of different schools which might be good for my boys.  My boys might not be so lucky to have multi good choice.  Anyway, SPC is one of the good school which come up to my mind.  St Paul Co-ed is also a good school but I wonder my boy can sit still in the classroom.  Actually after reading the forum from BK and talk to the limited numbers of parent I know, the list of schools that come up into my mind and might be suitable to my boys also include , 陳守仁, St Stephen (Stanley), St. Louis, Ying Wa college & 培正.  All of them have pros and cons.  Anyway, hope to have more sharing in BK in the coming years.

J R Kennard's latest Monday Assembly Address

Dear Parents,

Dr Kennard's latest Monday assembly address was about Melamine In the address, he had not only discussed the contaminated milk products & their grave consequences but also quoted the Charter of Rights and Responsibilities in the College Handbook.

It is good English again with timely advice to the boys.  While some may wonder whether a secondary school principal should touch on a political sensitive topic as such, I am glad to see the school upholds the value of "Human Reponsibilities" and "Human Rights".
