以往(十多年前)聽講係"半間名校"(指預科),現時已今非昔比.....!係唔係真係唔知!

有家長提起多年前有"半間名校"之稱既保良第一中學!令人對何謂名校要再次反思及是否值得千方百計入之而後快再作反醒!
"半間名校"係當年一中校長”自謙”既稱謂,但亦是非常寫實貼切生動之絕句!!如果當年貴子女有幸入這所"半間名校"中一,也不知應否恭喜你!皆因當年可入讀此"半間名校"之預科生大多有7支箭或以上之成績…!!!!但當中絕無一個本校中五學生!!如此神奇之"半間名校"其存在相信可作一專題研究!

作為一個家長,為入名校,以心比心可歸納為兩點!
1. 師資及其文化傳統,校風等等對其子女之學習成長之良好環境
2. 其同儕之間所起之互相鼓勵既化學作用及其畢業後一些無形之人脈好處

要成為一所名校或band 1中學,良好師資校風及其收生質素,兩者互為因果,一般形影不離!如有良好師資但只收最低banding,有巧婦難為無米之炊之嘆!用電腦界既述語鐵律:Garbage in garbage out.

像這所當年能盡攬其他學校尖子既"半間名校",其出現可謂香港教育歷史上一異數及趣聞了!

Why are you so sure that none of the F5 students have 7A? Only a few years ago, PLC has an 9A student. Correct me if I am wrong.

Academic Results
We always strive to promote quality education and to turn out bright students. Students in the school excelled in scholastic attainment and achieved promising results in all the public examinations in which they sat.

Our candidates for the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination achieved a passing percentage of 98.7% in subject entries. The percentage of distinctions and credits was 62.2%. Thirteen students attained 2As or above. All of our F.7 graduates were admitted to universities of Hong Kong, especially The University of Hong Kong and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The majority now study Medicine, Business Administration, Computer Science, Engineering, Social Sciences, etc.

Thirteen of our F.6 students got admission to universities through the Early Admission Scheme. Seven of them gained entry to Medical Studies at The University of Hong Kong or The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Three were admitted to Business Administration (Law) at The University of Hong Kong and three others to Risk Management Science, Quantitative Finance, and Professional Accountancy at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

In the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination, the percentage of students with 5 or more passes was 98%, while that of distinctions and credits was 51.5%. Outstanding students included Leung Ling Yin, who got 9As and 1B, Chu Sin Yan and Wu Tsz Yin, who got 8As, Chong Wang Lam, who got 7As, and two others who got 6As.

唉唷,我都話講緊” 多年前”既事嘛!少安毋噪,我冇話佢唔係band 1,亦冇話佢一中唔係好學校(因今時今日我唔太清楚)!只不過話佢唔再係以往既”半間命校”之嘛!唔使咁sensitive阿!
你似乎side-track了重點阿!我一路講既係十多二十年以往既事阿!同今天係點,關係不大阿! 睇怕一中今天亦冇話全班預科個個7A以上罷!

我亦有一友人80’年代中,在九工考得7A成績而報讀一中!(當時冇7A都唔使報!要知係當時既’7A’,而唔係今日inflate左既9A!),後來此君回原校升讀中六,現時亦已係一醫生了!(心想此人讀那一間中學,未必會影響佢入讀醫科阿!) 我祇不過覺得呢個現象好有趣,亦好有啟發性罷了!

我不過在探討作為一個家長,為入名校既理由,以心比心可歸納為兩點!
1. 師資及其文化傳統,校風等等對其子女之學習成長之良好環境(simplified: 即貪佢"學校"好)
2. 其同儕之間所起之互相鼓勵既化學作用及其畢業後一些無形之人脈好處(simplified: 即貪佢d"同學仔"好)

我唔係話佢師資唔好,亦相信佢唔差得過其他band 1中學!香港band 1中學唔少,但可稱得上名校既就不多了!不過當年因 {2.其同儕之間所起之互相鼓勵既化學作用及其畢業後一些無形之人脈好處}此一因素明顯蓋過第一點之誘因!係當年,原校生要返原校讀預科,真係唔易阿!以往一般中學收校內生都比較寬鬆,一旦要出去”搵食”都幾凄涼阿!

我指既係以往其他中學之天下英才,可得而教之既盛況,聽聞已不復再!對其就讀之學生未嘗不是一件好事阿!不過想起以往呢d種種古怪現象有感而發罷了!

F.7似乎都係,但一個三班,另一個兩班好難完全直接比較!
但亦唔重要.....須則唔可以和DGS比,但點睇都係勁校啦!

如我係該區家長,而個小朋友自問係band 1(即同齡小朋友頭33%),都唔使再左想右想啦!!

沙田柚: I don't disagree with you that HK tier 1 schools have special advantage (i.e. their alumni network) that local tier 1 schools (e.g. PLC No. 1) might not have. It is a network built up throughout long years of excellence.

While PLC No. 1's academic results could match or beat most of HK tier 1 schools (in terms of number of A's per student, from an article I read a couple of years ago), its networking and preceived prestiage are still weak comparatively speaking. That's a reality.
