我都係中5之後再讀多年ive先去ka~~ 係Mama o既決定=.= 不過我覺得太細個果去好慘仲要人生路不熟先最慘而家都係成日跟朋友出街玩咋因為我未去過o既路我都唔會自己行!! 因為我英文都仲係唔係太好

Then there is the consideration of $$ too....studying overseas is counting $$ every year so the earlier the more $$ needed. Friends told me it's best to go during secondary years say after F3 so they are still young enough to adapt and learn, and pick up the culture and language, but old enough to be independent. THis will, however, mean 7-8 years of overseas education fees....

我自己中五開始到加拿大讀書。。到今日己經12年。。
覺得中五太遲。。我自己仔女會俾佢地最遲係中三後留學。
其實。。最好係中一開始留學。。

How above Primary? Coz HK english standard is quite so so...
Which primary co-ed is famous in UK? for 7-8 kids

Mainly subject : science group

Myself went there after F2, and my sister went there on P5. We went to learn French in Swiss. We know not a words at that time, english was not good at all. No one speak english in the bording school. Our parent leave us there and back to HK. We stayed there for a year.

I take almost a year to get use to. But my sister can speak within a month. And after 3 months, she is flurent in French.

如果自己一個過去就初中,,中1-中3好D.都叫識TAKE CARE自己
成家移民就愈早愈好啦~ =]
不過我個FRD 小3就過左去美國,
佢話D 英文都冇佢細佬甘好,
總之愈遲去就愈冇地道口音..
O者係係讀英文唔係講英文果D呢..

其實仲要睇埋去邊個國家讀, 都有 d 唔同既.
我本身係香港讀完中三上學期之後去英國既, 覺得讀完中二左右係最好. 因為個人認為英國課程較易, 係香港讀完中二去到成績就唔洗太擔心, 可以用多 d 時間去 catch up d 英文.
唔 suggest 讀完成個中三先去, 因為開始要為考英國會考準備.
比地細個 d 去既唯一唔好處就係可能學少左樣 foreign language. 我自己就 drop 左 french, 另外再讀多另一個會考 subject

Why is everybody only worrying about learning English? If the kids stop learning Chinese at a young age, they will know relatively little Chinese, and even less about the culture. But of course if we don't consider ourselves Chinese, and do not intend to have our kids grow up identifying themselves as Chinese, then that's not a problem.
I know many parents in Hong Kong send their kids to international or ESF schools. They just want the kids to learn English. And soon the kids will be more fluent in English than Chinese, and yet the parents have problem communicating with them in English. I find this hard to understand.
To be good enough in English does not mean we have to sound exactly like a native speaker. Even if one speaks like a native, s/he will never be treated in the same way as a "blond-hair-blue-eye". I have a friend who is Canadian-born-Chinese. When she applied to work in some language centres here in HK, she was told that they would not hire her because she does not have a western look and western name. And another one, a native American lady, had to use her maiden name and not her husband's last name at work, though it's on her ID card and passport. Cos the husband is Chinese.
I mean, sure it's good studying overseas. They will learn a lot, especially if they can enter some good institutions. Besides, there are really a lot of problems in the local system. But why do we want our kids to forget their roots and embrace other people's culture?

咁我認為父母都有責任既.... 以我自己為例, 我父母都好重視我既中文程度, 所以未去英國之前我係讀中文中學既. 我父母又 insist 我用中文寫信番屋企 & 有時間睇吓中文書. 我係英國十幾年, d 中文都唔差架 :) 有心一定可以做到既.

至於英文好, 仲有係外國讀書 & 做野既經驗, 對係呢個時世揾份好工好有幫助架. 人人都想比仔女行條舒服 d 既路. 出國讀書都未必係唔愛國, 唔當自己係中國人既, 最緊要係父母點教 & 比 d 乜野訊息 d 仔女. :)

I agree with you. But it's not easy. and most people probably can't do what you did. I really admire you and your parents for this. I just felt it's sad when it seemed people only cared about talking like a native.
I did not mean 出國讀書=唔愛國; but it's different giving up one's own culture and root. 愛國seems rather remote sometimes, for those (inc myself) born in HK. But building up an identity for oneself starts from home, and that includes "home country" and culture in a general sense.
Anyway, no offence to all the parents who do so much for their kids. Of course I can appreciate it, cos I am one of them.

I strongly agreed with you.

Still don't understand why all the HK parents want their kids speak native English...

Now I believe kids grow up with their parents (with their love) is more important.

Besides, Mandarin is getting more important today.
