Me too.  I learnt that some parents included their profiles into the profolio but I felt relunctant to do so.

I know that many students accepted by the school are from families of "good" background, in terms of home address and parents' occupation.  However, I choose to believe that the kids are the main subject of the game.  It is just a coincidence that those families raise kids that come up to the school's expectation.

Maybe it's just an exception, but I know a kid whoose parents are separted was accepted by the school last year.  Only the mother attended the second interview despite the school's reiteration on the presence of dad and mom.

Cheer up! It's the kid's profile that matters!

Re: St. Paul's Co-ed Interview

My friend's daughter is studying in SPCC P2 now.  She is not coming from a rich family and her parents even didn't include any portfolio when they submitted the application form.

I think the school will accept some smart or polite kids no matter they are from rich families or high educated parents.

Pls don't think toom much.

Re: St. Paul's Co-ed Interview

I agree that the kid the main concern, but the family background can reflex how the parent raise the child.  These are the side factors that affect the kids.

Re: St. Paul's Co-ed Interview

Yes, but unless you have a kid who's brilliant, outspoken, confident and emotionally stable at all times, it must help to provide any supplementary info that's worth telling, including family background.  I can't believe that interviewers will pick the kids only based on their interview performance (it's not fair anyway, as even a smart kid may not be his normal self in front of strangers).

When I submitted the form, the staff asked if I had a reference letter (I didn't   ).  So many factors count, esp. for this school.

me too!  but I heard one staff asked a parent if he has ref. letter while I was waiting to submit the application form. The staff explained that was because that parents portfolio was very BIG and she's afraid if the doc would drop somewhere. Ciz, was your portfolio also big. The staff didn't ask me for ref. letter.

Re: St. Paul's Co-ed Interview

Profolio...

A little sharing: I read some articles teaching parents to do profolio, those articles suggested that parents may include photos and the kid's works such as drawings and writings.  UNFORTUNATELY, my mom "tried to help" me to clear my home and she threw away all my kid's K1 and K2 works without asking me.  It was only two days after the "clearing" that I found out... (too late )  So... actually I really had no choice and since all these schools are asking parents not to throw them with BIG profolio, so I decided just to include the basics plus a little extras to sort of "show my sincerity"... *sigh*

I think the trend is really not to submit BIG profolio, but if you think it will make you feel more comfortable/ confident, of course should submit something "nice and pretty"...

"Try your best and let God do the rest" ma...

No.  My husband read somewhere that the school would not like to see a portfolio with more than 5 pages.  So mine was exactly 5 pages.

I also read kind of information that big portfolio is not recommended.  Teacher will have no time to read.  The principal said so on the newspaper too. So, I didn't provide profiolio, but attached with my daughter's K2 school result and the resume, which detaily listed the family background.  I believe a detailed profile is more better than a portfolio as it is just one page long and all important info are included.

For the ref letter, I didn't provide it while submitting the application form, but handed to the teacher in the first interview.  I believe a ref. letter may help a bit if it is written from a well know and good reputation person.

Re: St. Paul's Co-ed Interview

this is my daughter's classmate case:
the headmistress was reading her portfolio in front of her during the whole interview so I am sure the portfolio is not useless and the headmistress will watch eventually!

and also my daughter's other classmate's brother was accepted by the school 2-3 years ago and she claims she didnt provide any portfolio that time and the most important thing is creative!  Ha! Believe it or not!
With lots of loves....... Kristin :-D
