hi, you're right.
let's postpone it two weeks later, ie. early Sept.
exact time and venue to be anounced. as it will be quite busy abt the prep for new school term then (for most of the N1 and K1 bb, right?)

since we have already gathered about 30 kids now, it'd be a pity if we can't get something organized and let our kids to know more friends :)

littlemak,
can u tell us more about your idea of support group? or more about the articles or books that u have read that made u started this idea?

are we going to separate kids into different age groups and have playgroups, such as those of Little Dynamites or KinderU, which plays flash cards, etc.?

are the parents going to be the teacher in the playgroup or are we going to hire somebody?

u said your place is near Kln Tong MTR and there is a clubhouse, right? can we use that place?

how about we propose 9th Sep (Sat) and 16th Sep (Sat) afternoon say about 5pm, for members to vote? 5pm we can have a little chat for an hour or so then people can leave for dinner? we will then take the date which more mums can attend la.

Just found this topic!

I have 2 kids. Girl (Angie) is now 26 mths and the boy (Angus) is just 4 mths old. Is it too early for a 4-mths baby to attend a playgroup? I'd like to have one for my girl first, may i join as well?

Hi Skypenguin & other mami,

I agree that we should at least meet once or twice to get things start - there are already 30 kids (families) enrolled in this group!  It would be a good source for exchange of ideas on children's education and child raising experiences.

Though I haven't read the article which littlemak mentioned, I always have the same idea in mind about having regular meetings with parents and children so as to give mutual support and sharing of experiences.  What littlemak shared with us affirms my belief that this is actually a good idea!  I have no concrete plans in mind at this moment, so it would be good if those who are interested can meet and discuss at the first meeting.

I remember that one mami can book clubhouse at Kowloon Station (cheerful-BB) and one can book near Mongkok (車莉）.  I think these two places would be quite convenient.  Of course it would be great if littlemak can arrange a place near Kowloon Tong.  The time suggested by Skypenguin is fine for me.

how about we go to a restaurant say in Festival Walk or somewhere in kowloon tong and have a 'tea meeting' 茶會 like those held by travel agencies for tours? we can book 2 to 3 tables depends on how many people can come. I guess at 5 to 6 pm the restaurant shouldn't have too many people and it is quiet, spacious and it shouldn't be expensive.

where is littlemak!??!

dear all,
sigh..................almost sick for 2 weeks, and having a bad fever for 3 days (腸胃炎) ! just come back to office for work today. actually it is just a very small piece of very delicious 黑芝麻奶露蛋糕, and the abdomenal pain lasts for 3 days!
also, 小麥子 had bad nightmare for 1 week already, crying and screaming and jumping on his bed at midnight (talking-dream), i just stopped his nursery class and planned for another one. he cannot adapt to that nursery at all.
sigh....................

Dear all,
I've got some tips from a book talking about organizing playgroup on our own:
- A max. age spread of 4 to 6 months so that the developmental differences would not be so great
- the ideal no. of kids is between four and seven, as at least 1 baby probably won't make it each week.  As far as sex goes, having the group evenly balanced between boys and girls at this age is nice but hardly necessary
- choose a time that works for everyone and then stick to it until it no longer works for everyone
- limit the length to about 2 hrs, that's long enough to give babies the time they need to warm up and get comfortable and short enough that they won't get too revved up and turn cranky
- may chose homes as location and rotate homes to give you and your baby a variety of glimpses of others' ways of handling life with a baby

That's the rough idea to share for the time being.  i can share photcopies of the articles when we meet.

But what my suggestion is, there are 2 main groups of babies/ kids: one is below 1 yr old, another is around 2 yrs old.  For effectiveness, I'd suggest that we gather togehter to share the board idea, then split into small groups of similar age for discussion.  We can always have cross-sharing if necessary.

That's some very useful tips, a big thank to SiuBoB mommy for sharing.

I was also just thinking out loud that may be we can really make good use of the club houses in the Kowloon Tong/Yau Yat Chuen area. We live in Yau Yat Chuen and would love to meet moms/babies (around 1 yr of age) who live in proximity.

For those who live nearby, we can just turn up at the designated place during the designated hours each week.  That way, it is easier for us to treat the play group as a regular/weekly event without putting in too much efforts ( such as travelling, time arrangement and so on).

I have no idea how a play group should be run, but I think it would be a good idea for kids to meet and interact at young age as most of them are single kids these days and it is quite important for them to learn how to share and bound with each other.

Do you mean u can book the club house at Yau Yat Chuen?

It may be a better meeting place than 新世紀廣場. I would prefer club house than restaurant as it may be a bit difficult to talk at the latter.

I may be able to book the club house if it is a smaller group. I still have to check with the club house as I have no idea how many people they are willing to take in one go.

Actually I was thinking, it would be nice to find out where we all live and for mothers who live in the same apartment complex, they can just go to the play ground on the Saturday afternoons. No booking is required, no phone calls to get people to come, no fuss, no stress. The group runs all by itself (haha, sorry for my "lazy" thought)!

If it involves too much efforts for the group to become a regular thing, it won't become a regular thing, i think but i could be very very wrong.
