my eldest son is studying at K1, but the interview I had last year was not like this year. I personally think the interview is much harder this time. My little one is only 2year 2 months. The teacher asked him to bring a book to open it and point out those things she asked. My son knows the items in the book but he was not in any mood to be co-operative, his mind was on the cars outside the basketball ground !. that's why i am not optimistic about him being accepted, but the teacher offered him to choose a key ring, he said "ng gor" and the teacher was looking for the anwser"tall tse" ! my son and the teacher have different channel to tune in !!!!

because of the number, the competition is fiecely high!

What's the difference?  I thought last year is also the same.  Kids were asked to play freely in the room; then the teachers approached each family to understand more about the kids and parents.  I wonder if it's the same approach in both schools (central and Mutler).  I thought that the born rate is low in 2003; hence the applicants are relatively low.  However, it's not the case.  If we have tried our best already (or kids have done their best); guess we have to accept the result no matter what.

Sebbie has a little brother who is 15 months younger. This little one is a bit difficult to keep him calm and in order, thank god i have also applied St. Paul Church next door...

I didn't have to worry about Sebbie, cos he was very well behave in all interviews but this little one is totally the other way round....headache!

I didn't know the teacher who interviewed my little one, but i think it was a long day for the teachers to do inteviews, I could totally understand how they felt having to interview more than 900 kids.....

I think it was one of the miss chan interviewed sebbie last year...

My son attended the interview of Mount Bulter last Sat.  Only 2 kids played freely in the room with 2 teachers and the teachers asked nothing to us.  

Is the approach of the interviews of two schools different?  Is the school (Mount Bulter) is good?  What is the approach of teaching and is it free/tough?  I knew nothing from this interview.

我個仔係第一組面試嘅, 佢好揀唔揀, 揀咗份四塊一隻動物, 一共幾十塊嘅動物PUZZLE, 咁當然拼唔晒啦! 不過老師話佢對位好準, 亦講得出動物嘅名稱.  跟住佢去攞咗本交通工具嘅書睇住D圖9秒9講晒差不多成本書嘅車名出嚟(eg. minibus, fire engine). 老師笑佢: 你可以做老師啦! 臨走前, 他手快快取了一盒顏色筆, 現在仍有用!

老師沒有放太多時間在我細仔身上, 唔知結果點, 不過他還有兩間未見, 唔緊要啦!

Hi Ethaniel,

I thought that it's almost guarantee to put the 2nd child to the same school.   Is it surprise you that suddently there're so many applicants in this year?  The graduates from this school can go to the famous primary school?  Or it is just the misperception.

It's always funny to hear that 2 kids from the same family got different personality.  You must have lots of experience / method how to handle different situ.  I am expecting the 2nd one in Jan.  I am thinking that they're also very different.

Congratulations on your little one....

I don't give too much hope this time is really because of the number of applicants, from the school point of view, if there are lots of kids who perform well and deserve the place which would put them in embarrassment if they are "forced" to reserve places for siblings... I personnal off course hoping that my little one will get a place but this time i am not confident.

And you are right, no two kids are the same, although mine really look alike but they have such different personality and character which you will soon be experiencing it..... it is funny and since i have two, i think two is a perfect number to complete a family ... how old is your eldest one ?

Hi Ethaniel,

My boy is 2.5 years old.  He's born during SAR period.   The 2nd one is a girl.   So their gap is 2 years and 8 months, quite perfect.  My boy is a happy boy, but very active that you just can't calm him down easily.  So he always wake up at night.  I was very depressed in the 1st year co'z he always cried at night.  Sometimes take you 2 hours to settle... Now, he is getting much better.  In fact, I just leave it to my maid to handle co'z I'm a working mother.  I just can't afford to get up all the time at night.  

So... I really hope that my girl is a different one -- more calm and stable in terms of emotional needs.  Otherwise, I will be very stress.  It is a very brave decision to have a 2nd child.  Same to you, my husband feels that a complete family should have 2 kids.   Though I worry about the burden for bringing up 2 kids, it's a BIG gift from our FATHER, you have to take it happily.

I hope that I can get a seat from SKP (Mount Bulter), I just love the environment, so nature and spacious for my active boy.  The school setting is simple which is good, not so commerical.  Believe that the parents / kids from this school are also humble and friendly.

I've been reading through all the messages.  
It's hard to believe that there are 900 applications this year.  Is it record breaking, more than St. cat and Kentville and pui ching.  I would be really proud if my son, Ethan, can get a seat.  But I don't think the chance is high after reading all the messages.
Anyway, something to share with you.  Sons of my friends (of course studying in SKH) said it is a good kinder.  Not commercial, teachers and staff are all nice.  They dont' teach difficult stuff, reasonable standards, not pushy.

Easy to get in famous primary school.  May not be true la since the headmaster changed 2 years ago.  Many connections were lost, esp. the one with St. Paul co-ed.

My experience on the interview day.  ok la.  long waiting time, but better than the worst case.  I heard st. cat, kentville and pui ching.  need to wait for (at least) 1 to 2 hours.  considering there are so many applications.  i guess waiting for less than an hour still acceptable.

The teacher interview my boy did not talk to us at all. I felt strange.  Anyone have the same experience.  I was interviewed on the first floor.  Does it mean they are not interested my son at all.

Don't give up yet.  My friend's younger son was rejected by SKH even though his elder brother was studying there.  (She said her younger son did not perform well in the interview).  She then wrote a letter to the Principal saying how desparate she wanted to have both kids studying the same kinder.  Then..... the Principal offered her a place.  You have a better chance than you thought.

What I heard from others & church's friends, that's a good kinder, I guess the interview day just a coincident, not too much time to understand the child & parents....I think that's not only SKH like that, others also as so many applicants for those famous schools.. if that's not a good school, I think the nos. of applicants will not be too many like now - 900 applicants.

So...don't too worry, try to believe your decision what you choose for your child!
