I just thought, if most subjects are taught in English in secondary schools and the public exams are conducted in English, isn't it easier to give the kids a head start in English? Correct me if I'm wrong....Chinese writing is so hard, especially we converse in Cantonese and writing in 漢語。if they can communicate in English better than they express themselves better in most subjects but of course their ability to communicate in Chinese seems comparatively weaker. It's a difficult decision to make, can't have it both ways... Just have to find a way to boost their interest in Chinese language. Now I read my son (K3 now) Chinese fables at night, and he reads books in English on his own.

Totally agree! in multi national companies even we have lots of diff accent colleagues,  native speakers still have edge.  if u are in the cycle, u will know!

我覺得最緊要係令佢有興趣，學習係自發和有樂趣的，吾係受罪。

In my MFA course, there are mainly 2 groups of students. Those can speak fluent English with good accent form a group. We had to present frequently, that gave me a hard time while compared with them. They could improvise after class discussion freely...while we were struggling to hv fluent English.

In Hong Kong, local kids are bound to learn to speak in Cantonese. It's just the reading and writing, because it's so different from the spoken language it makes it so much harder for kids. Comparatively speaking English is much easier to master. Once they learn how to speak and read in English, the spelling and writing comes naturally. I don't know if I'm making a wise decision here to put more emphasis in English now (I may regret it later) but it does makes it easier for their learning processes once they get to read on their own. My son now reads science and story books of primary grades, although he has a lot of catch up to do in Chinese!

唔係, 我兩個小朋友都係中文好好多。我已經向好多JM偷師, 暑假買咗幾本好有趣既audio book俾佢聽, 點知佢都係唔都聽, 寧願偷偷睇中文書。


結論可能係, 父母中文好, 小朋友中文就好, 父母英文差, 小朋友點學都學唔好
