■青協促教育局增撥資源,向小學生推擴STEM。


【青協調查】


教育局近年推動STEM教育(科學、科技、工程及數學簡稱),惟青協調查發現,約五成半高小學生不認識或不知道STEM,更有約41%和39%認為無人啟發其科學和數學興趣。青協指STEM是世界大趨勢,當局應增撥資源推廣。


青協青年創研庫進行「小學創科教育狀況與啟示」研究,今年2月8日至22日以問卷調查訪問520名小四至小六學生,並與15名教育工作者和專家訪談。問卷結果顯示,表示不認識STEM的學生有41%,不知道或難講的有14%;近半學生稱因功課太多,無暇參與STEM活動及各有約36%學生指活動費用太貴或對有關科目無興趣。


四成指無人啟發興趣


約41%和39%學生指無人啟發其科學科技和數學科的興趣。而學生自評其創意及解難能力,以10分最高,平均分僅5.95及5.79分。


青年創研庫教育與創新副召集人陳君洋稱,有受訪教師和專家認為小學資源、人手不足,香港又輕視創科,社會氣氛未能有利於推行STEM,學生會逐漸流失對數理學科的興趣。他說,STEM不是學科,而是種精神,更是世界大趨勢,有配套需要,但未必要增加課時。


政府曾向小學發放一次性10萬元津貼推動STEM,陳稱並不足夠,長遠需有經常性資助。陳又說,部份小學教師無充足數理底子,建議當局為小學教師提供境外進修,校方和坊間專業組織亦應多推廣STEM。

同 閱讀一樣, STEM精神要從小培養. 要香港大部分家長大認同真係唔係咁易。
學校都可以搵班熱心家長做義工。

Except may be engineering, all primary school student must have had learnt something in science, technology and math.
And of course, what primary school students learn may not seem to be something so "special" but I am sure they are learning all the basic knowledge they need.

Not sure why they asked them the question.
Of course they may not know the term STEM.
These people are just trying to make everything a big deal.

Engineering does not seem to benefit primary students as they have not got the science and math foundation to do any reasonable engineering solutions.
The more bizzare a thing is, the less mysterious it proves to be.

Engineering is applied science. 絕對可以小學開始培育。

How can you be a beginner in science and at the same time learn to apply the limited science knowledge primary students have ?

小兒去年小三project玩空氣炮,用膠樽做。家長去參觀。學生present得有文有路,見佢地玩得好開心。Engineering is applied science. .慢慢 灌輸concept. 大個再學習大理論,加埋數學。興趣從小培養. 其實小孩子明白應用科學, 令佢哋更加容易明白科學嘅理論。 因為applied science好貼身, 周圍都用緊。 D細路其實好易明。

What your son did, was probably some kind of science fair project.
Even in high school, we do not have "engineering" class but only physics or chemistry. Because that is exactly what students are learning: basic science theory and knowledge.And we do not call science projects or science experiment "engineering".

STEM係唔係CAP水就見人見智,不過見到世界在變,AI,手機應用嘅出現對未來20年嘅影響會好大。政策係幫助應對未來發展,Coding只係STEM其中一瓣,個人覺得Coding有Rules有Logic,未來20年肯定大部份會被AI取代,有Concept有Idea做設計嗰啲可能長命一啲,但缺少手機,網絡,電腦等應用知識應該死得,現在小學生20年後正值30+盛年,佢哋面對嘅會幾動盪,冇人知邊一瓣會俾AI,機械人,自動化等取代,呢個情況下學多少少嘢冇壞嘅。

是他們半個term嘅topic, 然後做project. 先學science理論,然後apply. 即時apply science , 佢哋更易明科學理論

要做自動化,省勞工,engineers需求一定大。
機械工程,電子工程,物料工程,電腦工程都要同部一齊用。更深一層據例quantum mechanics理論的應用,computer chips加速發展,其他連帶科技野越來越powerful. 理論科學之後就出現applied science應用科學. 物料的應用離唔開atomic physics。chemical engineering也十分貼身,越來越重要。越來越多化學野。
STEM確確實實要重視。
美國都咁豪話要移民火星,直糸唔儍既。20,30年前有冇人想像而家個互聯網世界?一大班搞科學既已經急速前進。

阿仔小學玩個空氣炮就 模擬 火箭升空原理。apply左newton's third law. 嗰個term教newton's law. 理論講完做project. 一D都唔難明。 Newton's law周圍都系。

Like Nintendo said, except engineering everything is already in the primary curriculum. And the only one left (E) creates question marks for primary schools.  I wonder what the fuss is all about?

Don't you understand, engineering major, Newton laws are simple Physics.

Designing a Mechnical component in a machine that can withstand the stress exerted on the component, considering Newtons laws, material science, moments, finite elements to a specific specification is Engineering.

Just don't tell people you have a engineering major.

If we just shut down our brains and ask our sons and daughters to learn everything someone created a buzzword, we are doing more harm than good to the children's development.

Just think for hundreds of years, engineering is taught at university. You don't think there is a reason?  And suddenly you think your child must learn engineering at P3 in order to keep up?

"Why not learn more just in case" is a god-sent to the marketers of primary engineering ECA or coding classes.
