My girl will be in P1 this Sept. Any comments of St. Clare's (eg, teacher....english standard....workload....exam.....) thanks.

P1 2 &3 are whole day school.  P4 is half day, not sure if the curriculum is the same.  I know for sure that whole day have French class, which half day doesn't have.

The teachers, staff and the principal are all very nice and friendly.  They really care about the well being of the girls.  My daugher's grades are average but the teacher still really good to my duagher.

Work load seems ok to me, but it seems that they always hurry to finish the curriculum before tests and exams.  In my opinion 2 test and 1 exam per term is too much, 1 test and 1 exam is better but is acceptable.

I heard that whole day school will teach math in english, dunno if true.  My daughter's math class is in chinese.  This year they have also started to teach part of General Studies (science stuff) in English, some are quite hard for primary students but my daughter likes it very much.

Overall the curicculum is on the hard side, but the school doesn't force the student too much, it is quite a happy learning environment.

Students are requried to participate in at least 1 extra curricular activity at the school.

How much is P1's tuition, is it around 2800?

How about the load of homework? how many terms per year?

2 terms per year for half day school, i think whole day is the same.  You can go on the school website to see the school calendar scps.school.hk

homework load is ok, not too much homework, but the amount of homework is not spread out evenly, for example one day only 1 homework, the next day 5/6 homework.

Hi RSG mum,

Nice to read your message from here. My daughter is in P.2. It's true that Maths is taught in english for P.1 to P.3 (i.e. the whole-day grades) and luckily that it is so since my daughter is not good in Chinese and we spare a lot of effort in the revision. I'm actually one of the PTA's committee members and we've shared with the teacher members on the same view as yours about rushing for the completion of topics before tests and exams. I'm not sure if this is a norm for all schools in HK but it seems that my friends have the same complaint. We've also suggested in the PTA meeting that the School could consider teaching General Studies in English instead (not part of Chinese and English like they way they do for P.4 - P.6 which is quite complicated). However, they declined the suggestion as resources are a concern, like structuring teaching materials in English and looking for qualified teachers. By the way, do you have any other suggestions about academic work that you would like to discuss as we have the next PTA meeting after the final exam? I always want to ask around but I only know parents in P.1 & P.2 but not other grades. Please pm me if you would like to share.
