教寶寶數學-圓點卡, pls. help!!!

I started to teach my bb (4months now) about dots card 2 weeks ago, at first, she only looks at it (not really show any interest) and everytime i read out the no. she will look into it; however, i don't know if i flash the card to her so slow or what reason, she becomes less interested and now she will look around and seldom to look at the cards i flash to her.  what should i do?  should i cont'd or change to teach something else, like formula? or other word cards?  cuz this is my first time to teach her and i want to start with dots card first!  

any experienced mom, pls. help!

tks, Karson媽!  i read it over there already, but i want to know should i con'd or not, the discussion over there said should believe in yr baby, should cont'd, but my baby is getting less and less interested to the dots card now, what should i do?

I'm not a successful case because I cannot make the lesson very funny, both my son & myself prefer to play baby sign instead, but I can share my experience with you.

I guess all babies are difficult to concentrate on one object (especially an active baby as my son), and dots card for them is not a funny object, but if you flash them quick (really very quick), maybe they shall find the different between 1 card to another (sometimes I found sparkle in my son's eyes & smile). You must leave you & baby in empty room, calm, warm, no wet diaper or starve or thirsty & very important is a happy mind. Always stop the lesson before baby & you feel bore.

Since your baby is only 4 mos, she cannot speak & you are definitely don't know she can regonise the card or not.  So, just believe your baby as you believe Glenn Doman program.

actually, i follow all the guidelines from Glenn Doman; however, geralyn doesn't look at every dot card i flash her, i guess she'll only look at 3/4 cards out of 10, i can only see her being excited on each time i clap my hands to encourage her after finishing the lesson, sigh......:evil:

btw, what's baby sign?  another material to teach bb?  how old is yr son?   when did you start to teach yr son?

I think teaching maths is useful therefore I also read the book 如何教寶寶數學.

I agree that we can show some dot cards to them and teach them the formula "+" & "-".  It can be understood.

However, I disagree with their suggested method of teaching "x" & "/".
According to their method, we only need to show them cards and read aloud, for example:
(2 dots) x (3 dots) = (6 dots)
(8 dots) / (2 dots) = (4 dots)
The problem is only by showing cards, there's no explanation at all.  So how can the child understand the concept (or logic) behind, which is:
2 dots exist 3 times therefore equal to 6
8 dots divided into 2 parts therefore each group is 4.
If we don't explain, how can baby know.
As a result, I think it will only confuse my baby on the very first concept on maths:
(2 dots) + (3 dots) = (5 dots) - this is easy to be understood
but not
(2 dots) x (3 dots) = (6 dots)     

Furthermore, if we show them 2 cards, 1 & 79, and we ask babies to choose which one is 79, they will of couse pick the 79 dots under comparison.
But if we just give them only a card 79 dots.  I don't think they will tell you correctly that is 79 as it claimed that babies can tell in a glance but not adults.

According to Glenn Doman, we shouldn't test them.
I don't worry of teaching my baby less, but I worry if I teach my baby "wrong".
If I teach wrong, it will take long time to rectify their very first concept on maths.
Therefore, I think I will try to show the card 1- 100 dots and only "+" & "-" at the very first stage.

But definitely not "x" & "/" in a formula way.

Baby sign is a series of 手語 which is for baby & you,
you can "talk" with baby by baby sign.

I quited dots cards because I can't make the lesson very funny, both my son & I feel bore.  When I showed him dots cards, my son "told" me by baby sign that he "don't want" dots cards, so, I gave up & concentrated on baby sign.

"有時隔一段時間小朋友又會再看" yes, it mean to stop lesson few days then show cards to baby again, time passed & baby raise, they shall have interesting of lesson again, it just like 6-7 mos baby hate milk, after that they like milk again, same theory.
  
Don't push baby for lesson because funny, laugh & feel of successful is very important.

Yes. I memorised 乘數表 when I was Primary 2.  However, I don't think that we should ask our babies (4 months or something to 背乘數表).
And it seems that 背乘數表 is not GD's intention.
Furthermore, they use dots but not numbers.

In GD, it always emphasizes "random".  
For example, if we show them 1 - 10 dots, we have to do it randomly, so that babies really learnt from understanding, but not only from memory.
The same as formula, we shouldn't show them 1x1 =1, 1x2=2, 1x3=3 ...... in sequence.
Instead, the numbers exist in the 1st formula shouldn't use again in the 2nd forumula.

Well, even if it's a kind of memorizing, we still have to explain the logic behind.  I think that's the right attitude towards learning.  But not just memorise a table without thinking.

Here I'm not critcizing but just want some more BRAINSTORMING from users.
