Hi,
Although I'm not an expert or a certified psychologist,I'm pretty sure your son is gifted.(maybe even highly gifted) My daughter is also gifted(assessed when she just reached 5 years old with the HK Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children.) and I know more or less what gifted children are like. My suggestion and advice to you is that you'd better look up resources and reference which tell you how to deal with and what to expect from gifted kids so as to help your son develop his potentials. From my experience,you are going to have quite a "hard" time with your son because he will get more and more inquisitive and demanding as he grows up. He will drain up your energy (and maybe your patience sometimes) because he is most likely to be very energetic. He needs little sleep(if I'm correct) and he just loves to learn about everything around him. He is very curious about the world(typical for gifted kids) and there are just much much more about these kinds of kids.If you want to discuss further,do PM me and I think maybe we can share some parenting issues we face.(You are right,bringing up a gifted kid needs much more of energy and "headaches" in a sense. There are worries and "low-times" which might not be understood by other parents.)

Hi,

I also want to understand more about gifted child.  My daughter is now 19 months old, she also can recognize a lot of vocabularies.  When she was around 16 months old and we took her to BBQ, she suddenly pointed to the sky and said "Airplane" which we havnt never taught her.  She now knows a lot of body part such as tongue, teeth, mouth, neck, toes, arm, leg, shoulders.  She also can recognize many different places, like we saw a cat on a street 3 months ago, and we went there again last week, and she told me " Cat, Cat." She also know how to turn on the DVD machine, put the disc in and press play when she is 16 month old.  

Also, 2 months ago my husband took my daughter downstair to walk around.  My daughter kept telling him to walk in one way, my husband followed her.  She took my husband to one of our friend's house which is near our house but need to walk for around 8 minutes.  

Actually both of my husband and me have to work and we dont have much time spend with her.  We never teach her on purpose,  all the words she knows is coming from our daily life.  Can anyone give me more resources about gifted child?

Many moms PM me to ask for the 230 word list, I was updating it last night and found out actually is much more than 230, he knows about 380 word.  He learns a lot in this month.  

This morning when we were walking out, he said, "Mommy, listen, bird sing."  At the same time, he used his finger to point at his ear.  Whenever he hears an ambulance or fire truck around, he will say, "Listen, ambulance"

Thanks for your advice.  You're right, my son never sleeps. He always refuse to nap when he was newborn. Til now, he only take a very short nap, that's the reason (I guess) he can hardly gain weight. I have done some searches on internet.  I hope he is going to be OK.  I'm more concern about his health than educating him.....

I will PM you if I have more question.

I also work full-time. Try to spend an hour to play / read to your little girl.  No matter how busy I am, I'll spend at least one hour with him at night.

Absolutly agree with CDMom, my son also sleep less.  He is so interested everything around him.  Speak early (he speak in full sentence while one-year-old). It is trouble to have a gifted child, however, it is a gift from the God.  It is so trouble that he always ask and ask many many question (many question you don't know how to answer.), however I am still very happy to answer his question or to find out the answer together with him.  

I suggest that if you think your child is a gifted child, take an IQ test.  It is worth to understand  the gifted part of your child.  And also you know why he is like that or he does that thing.  Before my son have the test, many friend convince me don't waste the money (it is quite expensive to take a test).  But after the test, i know it is worth.

how old is your son?

I don't think my son is old enough to take a test. Anyway, no matter he is really gifted or not, I will be the one who teach him.. I won't depend on the school.

My son is 6 already.  I know if take the "韋氐" then 5 can take.  however I know some other test can provide for small one.  But I can't sure how young can take the test.

How's your son doing in school? Is he very active and smarter than his peers? What else you have to do at home? Offer him additional education?
