Hi ALAL,

It has been a long time we have not chatted in BK.

My comment on Luk Chan Chinese Language School is positive. However, before you enroll, I think you need to consider the following:

1.        The School's emphasis is more on writing Chinese than speaking Putonghua. Is that what you are looking for?
2.        They teach simplified Chinese.
3.        They charge $200/hr though lessons are conducted in small groups.

I'm looking for the centre to improve my daughter's word recognition and writing of Chinese and therefore it may be suitable to me.  However, I have hestitation as you said it teaches simply Chinese.  Anyway, I will go to the centre this Sunday and see !

I went there last Saturday and the comment was more or less the same as Jokey2828, Miss Chan said most of their student are required to write at least one page of Chinese every week and the amount around 100-xxx words depends on level. Student may not required to write simplified chinese but must read.

During the talk, she says that the number of student will increase from 6-8 to 12 or more depends on the level. Only the ESP student will be 4-6.

Did you join the course then  ?  I;m thinking of this course or "中華字經".  But I don't have good impression on the 2nd one as the girl was eating things in the whole conversastion with me. :cry:

My son has not joined the course yet as they have to interview my son and evaluate his Chinese level. But Miss Chan said don't expect to have improvement within a month or even two month as this is a continuous progress.

BTW, they will only provide made up class in case of absence but no money refund.

我去完啦, 整體都ok, 但唯一考慮係佢教簡體字. 其實我support 學簡體 (大中華文字統一係遲早既事), 不過最驚佢同我校d字會mix up, 對佢睇課本冇乜幫助咋!

Recenlty HKU release a news in Ming Pao that writing of Chinese help reading very much.

This centre is not my cup of tea then because it teach simplied Chinese. Seems cater for international students.

I am actually sending my son to Shatin 'New Century Club' in the building next to the hotel in City One, which use Cantonese to teach. But since it is far my son will only go in summer holiday.

Any mums know good places to teacher Chinese in Kln?

I think Luk Chan is not entirely without its own merit for a student from a traditional school. First, it follows the Mainland Chinese curriculum, which is generally considered to be of higher standard than the local's. Second, once they recognize simplified Chinese, they can read lots of cheap books from the Mainland.
