Re: Useful websites for gifted
Hi CherylMum:
The earliest English course starts from age 9, so I guess it may not be only for high school students.
I appreciated this program for a few reasons:
1) After gifted children finished those courses, they can go off to things that they really enjoy instead. Things like novel writing, training for math Olympiad is highly time consuming. These courses would be a time saver for many kids.
2) No matter how gifted a child is ,he/she still needs daily learning. I guess having daily exercises does not mean it's going to be boring. As long as the courses are flexible enough to fit the child developments, it's certainly fine. Even gifted pianists have to practice every day, right? It's how and what they practice, not how frequently they practice, that really matter.
BTW, it's indeed a myth that gifted children don't like daily exercises. Gifted children love to be challenged, and their happiest moments of learning are the times when their eyes sparkle or when they utter "ahhhhhh!" I am hoping that these courses are not just more difficult/advanced. They are known to be profound. You may be right in saying that they're still not highly creative, yet analytical thinking skill would be something that they'd never lack.
I am indeed thinking that the program is more suitable for future professors than to future artists, though. Your girl is more to the artist type, right? |
