What is the meanings for R.L. ?

I've found that some English books marked with RL 2.3, R.L. 4.1, etc... could anyone tell me what exactly it means? Thank you!

RL means "reading level".  It is a scale to show which grade the book is for.  I think it is a US thing, as US likes to use a lot of metrics.
