Young Musician of the Year Award

My son just  won the "Young Musician of the Year Award" in the wind section. This is a competition co-organized by Tom Lee and McDonald. Aristo Sham won the Championship of course.

I think learning music does help to expand children's memory and at the same time having physical training. I found my son having excellent memory in his studies as well.

【明報專訊】很多人都知道「音樂」有助紓緩身心，放鬆心情，但原來「音樂」還可以啟發兒童智能，增強腦部的發展。兒童在學習樂器的過程中，講求專注力、記憶力及組織力的協調，還要配合「手眼一心」才能成事，故此愈早接觸音樂，對刺激小孩子的腦部發展及促進大腦成長愈有幫助。

在「玩」音樂的過程中，幼兒與成人互動，除了培養幼兒對事物的專注力及腦部組織能力，還有助他建立社交情緒，令他們提早適應社交活動。

I saw your postings on this everywhere.  Of coz, parents are proud of their child's achievement and acomplishment, but you should know there's many gift children in Hong Kong.  Playing well in flute is not really a big issue compared to other muscial instrument.  

Learn to be more humble la... and don't be a frog in a well, there's many excellent students outside .

Oh ! You are so MEAN with your words (just like the rich people do !!)  

I just want to get some encouragement for my child so that he can get more courage for his personal growth.

Also, playing the flute is as GREAT as other musical instrument. I sit in with my child when he has the lesson and I find it difficult to play FAST pieces since I don't think I can control my fingers as well as he did. (By the way, he is only SIX !!)

I am really disappointed with this kind of attitude (Looking down on someone's achievement). I am looking forward to some suggestive comments like that you've mentioned (how gifted children learn etc.)

我係呢度都無人話過我係教音樂既老師,你都應該係第一個囉...........我諗你都係唯一一個.你個小朋友都六歲啦,咁你都應該多去小學/幼稚園架啦.....除非你淨係關心你小朋友音樂既野啫....我諗你都係揀錯人話架啦....

我個女咁放張相出黎,都好多人問我有無好老師,好多人會pm你,我應該無講錯到..........

Your son is really great    
My daughter also joined this competition. Though she was only a second prize winner, I am really thrilled. As Phebeus Chan (the MC of the award ceremony) mentioned, there were altogether around 2,000 young children in Hong Kong just to get 3 winners in each grade (Gr.3 , 5 , 7 , 8). I attended the ceremony and I think all these children are great musicians. I am really proud of my daughter just like other parents do !

Wow ! Congratulations !

Aristo Sham is really a fine pianist and I believe your son does have certain standard to get the prize.

By the way, how long and how often does he practise ?

我個小朋友都有學音樂 , 她亦有很多同學仔表現很出色, 但其父母絶不會show off like "YOU" law.

香港有很多有不同領域才華的小朋友 , 所以一個奬項並不代表什麼 , 很明白作為父母一定感到欣慰 , 但 "欣慰"跟 "自大"又是兩回事。

講真我不認識Sindy, 但很多時我都會向她請教不同的問題 (特別是音樂)，因為她不說 , 我也會覺得她的小朋友一定有某方面的音樂才華 (可能是perfect pitch or musical gifted child)，但我郤不會覺得她像你一般 "show off".

Please learn be more humble la, world is big but we are small......
