Braemar hill VS Victoria

change can get into Bramar Hill if i push for a reference letter, but i wonder if it worth pushing , as i am a working mum , we are a down to earth family with normal background , concern for peer pressure

my first preference is Victoria and i think we stand a good chance , but i am concern about the fierce competition getting into VSH

any insight please ?

There are different family background in Braemar hill. If the school decides to accept your child then I'm sure they find your family (not only your child) suitable for the school community. Bear in mind that parents are expected to be involved in your child's daily activities therefore working parents may not necessarily have the time to participate. Having said that, BH is a really good school with an extremely high percentage of graduates going to co-Ed, DGJS and DBSPD, it is definitely one of most sought after kindy in HK.

For now I am not sure what I aim for . I like the idea of Victoria because it gives me few years buffer to see which direction suits better for my girl. I'm from hk n husband is from Brit. If we take on BH , I will be the only one helping with all Chinese work. I think my hubby wouldn't like to see his daughter being pushed everyday as they have different mentality , yet I am not that keen on the international school free style.

You don't like int'l sch free style but you also worry the workload in local school. So it will be more like the struggle between what style of primary sch and it seems BH is still a good choice to switch to int'l sch , although no backup from vsa
But I do believe you will still be able to find a better int'l sch like sis or cis if you want with your family background
Vic also needs to have Chinese hw to follow up
K1 maybe not much
But it doesn't mean you can just be relax in learning Chinese given that Vic is not pushy or give lots of drilling exercise to you

Majority of the BH parents are local HKers with a few foreign husbands. BH has a well structured program and there is no homework in K1 apart from reading English and Chinese flash cards which have already been taught at school. I would say that pressure comes from parents to their children rather than BH putting pressure to them.  BH kids are generally bright and confident as they have show and tell in PN and they need to stand on stage to lead the other students in their morning exercise since K1.

Also some of the kids left after K1 for CIS and some left after K2 for ISF. But the majority stayed until K3 and proceed to top tier local schools. BH provides good training in English, Cantonese and Mandarin for your kids. Parents are closely knitted in our own community and you will see both parents bringing their kids to school almost every day.

I wonder if some were admitted to top tier primary due to 'some other reasons?'

Actually, you will need to apply, accept and pay all the levy and deposits for Vic first, since BH offer comes very late and there is no guarantee.

Is the Victoria levy refundable ? And how much ? I am not aware at all

I think there are some post about the Vic levy in the other section of this forum.  I am not very sure about the timing for payment for this year as it happened to me a few years ago.  For this year, seems that it is $11k, refundable after your kid study for at least two months.

寶山當然是一間非常好的學校，如果收又經濟許可，我認為是很好的選擇。家長背景當然有一些名人富豪，但亦有一般中產家庭。壓力會有一些，但不是相象中大。但要注意交通接送安排,因為沒校車或媬姆車的。除非你識校長，否則冇人可以提早知道收唔收。而offer幾遲的，所以基本上都要有其他學校backup。
