After the new headmistress took the office in September, the following changes have been noticed. Let me summarise below with my personal comments:

1. The bridging programs: It is really unnecessary! For parents, we treat this policy as an excuse to ask teachers to stay longer after school. The students have really sacrificed their precious time which can be used to do other more important things. Remember that we are here only talking about internal symbols for primary school! The headmistress might have confused herself the external public examinations with the internal ones.

2. The English Syllabus for first term examination: absolutely no indications of whatsoever. Only inform the students that anythings related to the level of their studies will be examinable. I have never seen anything worse than this!

3. It is taking much longer time than before to mark the exam papers. I doubt that any major improvement will be seen just based on the examination for the past term. However, the headmistress might make use of the results as an excuse to put forward new policies. I expect more to be seen in the second term.

4. The delay in releasing the exam results could be seen as a drawback that teachers have lost their enthusiasms in their job. In other words, they have been overloaded.

The above are only some of my thoughts. Hope you can share yours with us ......

Bridging course is really unnecessary because the course itself should be fully integrated into the normal lessons if the materials covered in the bridging course is relevant. It is not necessary to provide such a course at the end of the school days at this stage (P.5-6) in preparation for the secondary school one year (for P.6 students) or two years (for P.5 students) later. I think the intention is quite different from the name (bridging) suggested but it is not difficult to see the purpose of it.

Unless one lives very close to the school, we should not under-estimate the the extra travelling time after the bridging course (beginning of the rush hours). This extra 30-60 mins (due to the traffic congestion) + the 1-1.5 hours of the bridging course lesson will surely change and disturb the normal study schedule for primary 5 or 6 students.

Suppose one can go to bed at 9pm, this only leaves the child some 1.5-2 hours for the homework! This has already assumed that the child has no 'play time', the dinner time is restricted to 30 mins and the shower time is no more than 20 mins. Of course, the child needs to come home by 6pm. Such a rush living pattern will be unhealthy to kids of 10-11 years old. Please correct me if I am wrong!

For every ailment(illness) under the sun, there is a remedy or there is none;
If there is one, try to find it. If there is none, never mind it.

共勉之!
