How come your teacher says something different from mine?? My daughter starts learning Letterland Fix-it since school term begin. Her teacher told me that it is a bridging course for some kids who has a basic knowledge on phonics but with insufficient writing skills that is required for more advanced levels of letterland. In fact, before the letterland fix-in class, my daughter was requested to attend 5 letterland phonic classes ( the traditional one ) during summer holiday so that the teacher can make sure she does not slow down the class progress of the fix-it. Compared with the letterland, the fix-it involves more schooling activities to reinforce the various phonic sounds as the traditional one mainly uses the songs and stories as a teaching medium. But the drawback of fix-it phonics is it takes more time to finish each individual letter sounds if one really follows the workbook material. My teacher actually spends 3 classes to finish the "S" sound and just begin to teach "A" sound. I guess with this teaching pace, it may take one year to finish all 26 letter sounds.
Hope information helps. |
