My kid is very detailed when she's in P.1.  Now, she's in P.2, getting a bit careless and not as focused as before.  Not sure if it's because there are more temptations around.  Any good methods to put her back on the right track?  She's not really not focused but compared with P.1, getting a bit worse.  Since this is not an issue for a long time, so want to put her back to the right track as soon as possible

I have a feeling that your kid and my kid are quite similar and both of us  believes are similar too. My kid is a pretty detailed one and this is a big advantage in the lower form. However, as he grows up, this advantage will become less and he will have more careless mistakes as what he is learning is getting more and more difficult.

So, I have to adjust my expectation on his standard also and I adopt a bit and accept: "learn from failure".

Secondly, allow him/her to make mistakes in the exercise and ask him to check where is the mistake. Always remind him to check, check and check..
In order to have time to check, time management is very important during test/exam. Leave around 10-20% of exam time for checking and remind him what to check (those high marks area, his frequent mistakes area).

Furthermore, as I mentioned in other thread, doing suitable amount of exercise is certainly good. Practice makes perfect!

Last but not the least, keep the happy learning attitude and again learn from failure.

Add oil for all of us!!

Many thanks for your sharing.  I agreed with you very much.  

We must learn from mistakes.  Afterall, who will make no mistakes.  I also agreed with you,practice makes perfect.  She still could not really do a thorough checking after doing the exam or test.  The mistakes she makes are all careless mistakes.  It's vague to teach her how to check from heart.  However, as time goes on, I am sure she will be able to grab it.  I always told her my mother is illiterate, it's me to think of all the alternatives to study myself.  No one held my hands at that time.  But nowadays, the environment has changed a lot.  Hopefully, my kid can do all independantly.  I am sure she can.   Anyway, I want her to have a happy study.  I told her I really don't mind the marks she get, it's rather whether or not she's hardworking, responsible and careful that all those count.  Last but not least, I definitely won't let her be "Hong Kong child".   Happy study is very important
