Re: Chinese class for int'l kinder's students?
Dear Bebej and CPmummy,
For those students in international schools, I never recommend kumon to them. The children get used to enjoyable and lively atmosphere. Fair enough to say, for European and Hong Kong students kumon material is inadaptable at all. (unless some students need learning descipline but I never agree to the Japanese in such case.)
I strongly recommend the international students to have spent time in the education center which can teach international and local subjects (like mine).
It is proven that:
Before Grade 10, the home assisgnments given are so little that he can have time in serious but funny training on Chinese (or other language) skills.
Learning any language of course needs environment and people to practice.
Blending with local Chinese is valuable chance.
Also if the teacher can handle all his/her subjects and
add up to his Chinese language skills.
My students of higher grades in international schools rarely speak or write Chinese. They tend to talk little with their parents about what happened in school simply because the parents may just talk with them in Chinese. The tone and the channel is strange for their ears as the young get older and sophiscated.
Chinese learning at their early ages draw parents and kids closer to a higher esteem as well as a sense of belonging.
Some students badly need tutoring after school ie, most need Chinese writing (those in Canada) , maths (those in Australia or Brasil, and even English literacy (those who is receiving education in Britian) because different in - school vary themselves in teachers' demands or focus.
Waste no time - this is my motto or your kids.
Thanks for your ears.
