人口大減，band 1生可大膽選校？

No. of primary students is decreasing from 80K to around 48K in future, so if no. of EMI school seats is still unchanged (16K), the chance of getting a seat in EMI schools will be increased greatly from 20% to 33%, not bad!

Besides, this has not included the seats offered from DSS yet.

Yeah, I also read the news today and glad to hear this good news.

Our school just held the parent meeting last night about selection of the secondary school.    I was glad to hear that all students in my son's class are in band 1.  Class teacher opened their average form position to us, my son is in the middle of this banding.  Finally, I can be released a little bit!

Now, I think most of the parents will face another headache on selection of the school in 2nd round.  Me too.  Our school asked us to try to select 30 schools from the list and then give them a draft 2 days later for comment before we submit the formal one on May 6th.   I'm very appreciate for this arrangement from our school.   

However, I tried to select 30 schools from the list last night and felt very headache.   I really don't know how to write down my choice especially for the position after the 10th choice.  

Our teacher said we can try to put the most favourite and top school as 1st choice like 喇沙, 九華, 英華, 培正 ..... etc (We are in the net of KL3).  However, I did not choose this kind of Top schools in the 1st round.   In the 1st round, I chose another band 1 school which is a bit lower level than this kind of top selection.   I heard from many friends in this net saying that we should keep the same school in the 1st choice.   Is it right?  Or I should try to put this kind of top school in 1st choice now if the competition this year is a bit better and we may have more chance?

On the other hand, I'm not sure if I should put all same level school in my choice of the 2nd to 5th (such as Hoi Ping, 迦蜜, 黃笏南, CSK, 銀饎...)?  I found all of these schools with many number of open places but they are in the same level.  Is it too risky?   If my computer serial no is very low, then will I lost the chance for first 5 choices if I put all the same grade schools like this?   Or it is still saftey because they are not the top schools?  I really frustrated on my selection.  Hope Hotdogpapa or someone who has experience can give me some idea.

其實我囝囝都是KL3, 今日睇報紙話KL3有6000多個學生, 即是話有2000多個BAND1 學生, 但Top School of Band 1 最多只有數間, 換句話說在第1個round 較好的學校已經派完, 我實在想不出 2nd choice 可以選些什麼, 而且誠如你所說那數間學校都是同一個level, 所以實在非常頭痛

I will choose Elizabeth as 1st choice and Hoi Ping as the 2nd choice. My son asked me how about the 3rd choice, I still cannot make decision.

三十個，的確是太多了！還比當年升中試還要煩…如果band 1生(不是全進取形...)，填十間已經足夠，其餘求祈區外區外....算了！

你可以影多幾張 draft ，用不同掛位方法~交給老師過目過目，如何？
第一種當然是全進取形！
第二種是第一志願進取，二至五順序保守！
第三種一至五都是保守形！

thanks for your comment.  But I'm afraid the class teacher will think troublesome if I send her so many copies......

Anyway, I agreed with you.  10 choices are good enough for me.  My first 10th choices are all mid level of band 1 school with only 1 of it is band 2 which is 何文田官中, none of it is top school.  Hope it can increase the chance.   And the rest of 20 maybe any of them, believe I won't be so unlucky gaw....

我唔同意填10個, 因為填30個, 派到第30都有個譜, 起碼你心裡有數,知道最差最差果個水位去到邊, 如果填10個, 佢有權派你去離島,沙頭角, 你就吹佢唔脹啦, 所以我認為尾後的20個志願就算亂填, 都要填滿佢

You got the idea.  Some schools, like La Salle, Wah Yan, etc, must be put as 1st choice.  Never put such schools in 2nd-30th as it's just useless.

A point to note: from what I saw in the lucky draw last year, except traditional famous schools like La Salle and Maryknoll, Wa Ying must also be put as the top choice if you want to have a chance.  Ive seen kids who cannot get into Wa Ying even if they put it as the top choice.  They got into Hoi Ping, Wong Fut Nam and CSK instead.

I would suggest kids in this district to pick like this:

High Risk:
1: La Salle / Maryknoll or any other traditional top schools
2-5: Hoi Ping / Carmel / Wong Fut Nam
6-10: Hioe Tjo Yeong / Bishop Hall / Shatin EMI Schools

Medium Risk:
1-6: Wa Ying (must be #1 if chosen) / Hoi Ping / Carmel / Wong Fut Nam / Hioe Tjo Yeong / Bishop Hall
7+: CMI schools like HMT Gov / Pentecostal / Kln Tong True Light etc

Low Risk:
1-3: Wa Ying (must be #1 if chosen) / Hoi Ping / Carmel / Wong Fut Nam / Hioe Tjo Yeong / Bishop Hall
4+: CMI schools

If your kid is in band 1 for sure, don't worry too much.  From past experience, these schools also accept band 2 students: (that means if a Band 1 choose them, they can get in for sure if they choose them as choice 30):

1. Hioe Tjo Yeong
2. CSK
3. HMT Gov
4. Pentecostal

They are not top schools but they are still okay.  Put any one of these among your 30 choices and in theory u can get in them for sure.

Dont overlook schools in other districts.  There are some hidden gems in Shatin.  For girls, St Rose of Lima in Shatin is an EMI school and parents in Kln City tend to overlook this one.  Wu Chung in Ma On Shan is a good CMI school too.

I wish I can give more advice, but I don't have much experience in other districts.

From what I saw in the list of schools, your district seems to be a straight forward one for Band 1.  There're many top EMI schools.  I feel bad for those band 2 and 3 kids.  It's really hard to pick.

看看hotdogpapa這個topic, 再認真計計數, 十分認同, 試看看我的分析觀塘區的數據, 給各位家長參考下, 其他區的家長也計計自己區內的情況:

觀塘區band 1學生約有1900多人，band 1英中學位有900，他區英中學額有80，加埋英中學額有980，還有本區band 1中中梁式芝、蒙民偉共310學位，他區band1中中約40，加加埋埋band 1學位有1330，有band 1 生去左直資名校如st paul co-edu、DBS、DGS等，又有band 1生會入番直屬中學（堅樂、聖若瑟），估計約100人，即1800人爭1330學位

so, 我認同band 1生可大膽選校
