Never hear that it is easy to get into DGS.  After it changes to DSS school, it must only take the very top students, which may be the top 5% of students among all.

協恩 is for girls from average families.

Apart from the capability of the child, the choice of school may also depend on the financial and educational background of parents.

I don't think it's accurate or appropriate to label schools according to the students' family backgrounds.  I agree that many DGS girls are from middle-class or professional families, but there are numerous exceptions.  Such labelling is quite misleading and unfair to the schools.

The original question is "which school is better".  The answer is simple - DGS.  If the question changes to "which school is better FOR MY GIRL", the answer will be totally different.

Agree very much with you.  DGS is no doubt the best GIRLS school in HK.  Yet its culture may not be suitable for some girls.  Competition in the school is terribly keen.

Just wonder how people compare DGS to popular international schools like King George V?  What's your thoughts?

而家你先問，即係話你個女出年先派位啦。女拔今年九月以後轉直資，所以不如以協恩中學在升中派位選校排位時放佢第一位，另考女拔。

考直資學校考幾多都可以，唔影響派位，以往除了由小學升上，入女拔真係有D渺茫，4班小學升4班中學，但直資會有5班中學，機會肯定大左。

都唔到你唔label，大部份都係由小學升中學，小一淨學費幾年前都三千元，計埋課外活動D費用一年多過好多人全年收入。唔係middle-class 係甚麼? 重有，女小拔萃會揀D父母有學歷及專業人士。

In DGS, the syllabus itself is very demanding.  The teachers expect all girls are exceptional so they always try to push extra stuff on them.  They are teaching the F.3 girls a lot of F.5 stuff.

In fact, I don't think the competition within the school is that keen.  If you're smart, you are.  If you are going to fall behind, you will too.  The school knows how to build up student's sense of belonging to the school.  Their "enemies" are those studying on Clear Water Bay Road or on Farm Road.  One thing I notice is many of them tend to have a sense of pride, to a point that some people may find it offensive.  (Actually the same happens to other schools like 喇沙仔)

It's hard to compare KGV and DGS.  If you compare 2 students in the same grade from each of the schools in absolute terms (how much do they really know in each subject), DGS will win by a Nathan Road.  But that may not be the problem of the kid or the school but just the difference in education system.  KGV can produce very bright, smart and top students and also very horrible ones. That's one feature of international schools.  Local parents who is planning to send their kids there should prepare for a culture shock.

In my mind, DGS remains the top school in the territory.  Some may argue the case for St Paul's Co-ed.  DGS' achievement in sports is enough to carry her past St Paul's.  (In my high school days, my friends in St Paul's told me that they are only allowed to kick "watermelon" balls in school.  Not sure if it's true now.  What a joke.)

小學只有3班，中學亦只有4班，不是4班和5班。女拔的學生可能如你所講，家庭背景比較富裕，所以有不少都會中途離校到外國留學，所以不時都會有插班位。

我覺得家長如果不是自悉心栽培，就真的很難讀DGJS，就算有幸收了也不會追得上。首先看看女兒是否可以讀得上才報，可以慳返50蚊飲茶。協恩也是好學校，唔讀小女拔讀佢，損失唔太大。

我前年識得個女生, 佢喺英文私小考全級第2, 1st round報協恩, 冇收佢, 2nd round排DGS第1, 結果中咗, 入咗DGS. 佢係個好努力o既學生, 冇父母o既幫忙(除咗安排佢入咗英文私小之外), 冇補習, 除咗讀書外, 佢仲要幫忙做家務, 煮飯, 佢父母咩都唔識, 就連升中填表都係班主任幫佢填(就連DGS第1次家長會都係老師同佢去), 可以話佢真係完全靠自己, 我覺得佢好乖同好叻, 亦都好努力. 最好笑佢媽咪喺度呻, 個女讀咗中學佢辛苦咗好多, 因為個女唔得閒煮飯, 要個媽咪煮, 我就覺得個媽咪好幸福, 有個咁乖巧o既女. 我好羨慕

Heard sometimes before that Heen Yunn will become DSS by 07 or after, anyone knows if this is true?  Any info. from the school?

DGS girls are so confident of themselves that I don't think they would even regard those from Clear Water Bay or Farm Road as enemies.
