How to help ESF's student to learn Chinese ?

My son is studying in Genesis' after school class, the teacher said he is behind.  We are working parents, finding time to teach my son Chinese is easier said than done.

Does Kumon Chinese Help ?  

Any Chinese class specially designed for ESF's student in addition to Wider World Workshop ?

Is it a good idea to hire private tutor ?

Please advice.

我個仔都係讀IS，不過唔係ＥＳＦ，而家我同細仔每日讀一本中文書，都認到下５００多個字，如果半小時都抽唔到，公文中文都係好選擇，其實我都有比阿仔上過堂，不過佢唔鍾意，我覺得公文好有系統，用唻打基礎幾好，其實我都想搵private tutor，好的先生好難搵，搵到都要排幾個月先有位。

May I know when your son start to learn Chinese? Is it difficult for him?
I am considering to put my daughter (who is studying in International kinder) to Kumon to learn Chinese, I ask for comments on Kumon in another forum but so far no one answer. I would appreciated if you can share with us and give me some advice.

May I know more your comments? Did you ask your son why he didn't like to study in Kumon? Are teacher there nice? I went to Kumon their Mei Foo branch last Satursday, the receptionist is black face and not helpful, She gave me a leaflet without any detail explanation, just ask me to study it by meself. When I ask about the time table, she asked me to goes to the door to check by myself. There is some notice posted on the door but I can't find the exact time table I want. Finally I went out, I didn't go back to her and ask for some more details. What a bad experience with it!

我大仔以前是private tutor的，教得相當好，先教廣東話，後教普通話，但後來移民了，我大仔的基礎還可以，不過而家好難要佢看中文書，但比本書佢都讀得掂，唔會唔記得Ｄ字，寫就差Ｄ。
細仔４歲半時上過公文，那老師是在家教的，那時段只有兩三個小朋友，各學不同級數的不同科目，所以我覺得好，後來佢搬去商場做，其門如市，環境大不如前，個個小朋友自己讀自己做，我個仔最細，唔可以好似其它小朋友咁自學，所以便不再去了。
我覺得公文的好是它很有系統，如果有得買它的課程，貴Ｄ我都願意買。它是用普通話教的，我個仔就唔多鍾意。而家我係每天和他讀一本書，認字進度都不錯，但寫就教唔到了！之前係度問過人有無靚字帖介紹，不過無反應。

基本上上堂的模式是這樣的(我唔sure係咪個個先生都咁樣)：老師先檢查你有否做好上次給你的功課，我個仔初初係讀比佢聽，幾個月後才有抄寫功課要交；跟著就教新東西，教完後自己坐埋一邊聽ＣＤ一邊看文字。時間只得半小時至４５分鐘。佢係來回咁教其它兩三個學生，所以程度唔同都無影嚮。上堂時唔比家長在場，係我仔講番比我聽。回家每日都要做小小功課，大約１５分鐘。
後期搬去商場後，因為學生好多，佢請左幾個助教幫手，有時佢直情唔係度！
我相信你唔會鐘意咁既形式，其實我都唔鐘意，但我好鐘意佢個課程，可惜無得買。
我帶細仔去試公文，係因為大仔有兩個鬼仔同學學得唔錯，佢地寫字及中文文法好過我大仔。我相信只要選好一種方法，然後盡力跟住做的話，應該都會有成績，好似果兩個鬼仔咁，private tutor的缺點就係唔容易找到好的，有時又因為時間地點的轉變要換先生，課程又跟住變，公文就無論換邊個先生都對課程及進度無大影嚮。

Thank you so much for your details explaination.

I think 咁既形式 will only suited for older kid who can read book by themselves, so it will not suited for my 3 year old girl. I would rather prefer she can learn throuh play, more or less like playgourp, i.e. singing, story telling, playing flash cards etc... as I don't need her to learn writing in this age, as I think it is better to waiting until she meet 4 or 4.5 years old. I just want her can recognize the Chinese words.

Any experience mon can share which school do you send your kid to learn Chinese? Taught by Mandarin is preferable. Please help!
