My son and daughter are with SIS,I'm a singaporean
married a HK husband. My son is in P3 and my daughter is in PY 2.I like the school because it has a mixed culture of east and west and not as tough as
studing in singapore. Some teachers do have singapore acent but acceptable because they are all selected by the MOE back home.I do not find discrimination in different students.Students speaks
only english and mandarin in school and they are taking french as their third language.I recommend SIS not because I'm a singaporean is because it is really a good school. Before I decided to put my kids there,I had researched other int'l schools,I found that
for asian,SIS is closer with us for they have an oriental value ! I want my children to keep the good
chinese traditions from generation to generation.
Wishing you all the best.

My son and I have not come across any racial discrimination problem in SIS. In fact, Singapore is a multi-racial society and Singaporeans are taught in schools to respect other races.  I found most of the Singaporeans are friendly.

Regarding homework, there is virtually no homework from P1 to P3 but the curriculum is solid. SIS encourges students to read during their free time. My son reads about two hundred books each year and has developed a good reading habit. At P4, my son spends less than 30 minutes on his homework everyday. Apart from homework assigned by teachers, I give some additional exercises to my son just to keep him occupied and my son still can cope with the additional workload.

There are two exams per annum. There is not too much pressure from exams unless you have a target in mind.

My son enjoys his school life in SIS and he is learning well. We love SIS very much.

Dear Ivylove,

We are Singaporean family who live in Hong Kong. My daughters are in P4 and P2. SIS conducts 2 examinations-oral & written for P3 -P6 pupils ( 1 examination for P1-P2 pupils) relatively on Jan and Jun. Much more relaxer than traditional school in Singapore.
The time that pupils need to spend on their homework it is depend on the ability, willingness, attitude of the pupil and requirement of the parents.
For example if your child is asked to write a composition. You can choose to let your child write whatever she/he want and able.
Alternately, you can choose to polish your child's writing and presenting skill. But, longer time is needed.
1. Mary walked faster as it was going to rain.
2. Mary quickened her paces as it was going to
rain.

I belief Singapore has a very good eduacation system(both academy and personality development)  as our government treasures Singapore children very much. Our children are very precious to our nation.

Please do not worry about  teacher would discriminate your child if he/she is Singaporean or not. Singapore is a multi- racial country. Many races of people live in peace and harmony in Singapore/SIS is our very unique culture.
I think everybody like those well-behaved pupils more that those have very poor upbringing/trouble maker-It is regardless of the nationality/races.

SIS provides very caring environment to its pupils.
Hope above information is helpful enough!

Dear EEPhoon,I think you have mistaken me with someone else in the forum.I was not the one who
raised those questions.Anyway,you have made
good points.SIS is not as tough as it is back home
but it's definitely more demanding than other int'l schools in HK.Especially for maths and science, that's why my son need extra help after school.I was fortunate to have found a good tutorial center for
singaporean in causeway bay.Good for you if your kids do not need extra help.

Dear M&M mother,I am most willing to share my
thoughts with other mothers in the forum.
All schools in S'pore teach in english and mandarin.
Going to Uni is very much depends on the standard of the student.I would like my children to go to NUS
in S'pore than further their master overseas.
The language ability in HK is degrading in general,I am sorry to say that.My children are half hong konger and half singaporean,we are fortunate and happy of what we are.Keep in touch.

Dear all,

I heard that some teachers from mainland China is very straight, but teachers from S'pore are nice. Is it true in your experiences?
I've heard somone who's kid was taught by a Chinese teacher Ms. Kwok who teached grade1-3 Chinese. She said that teacher was very very harsh, even more demanding than local school teachers.  I don't know how true it is. Is there anyone could kindly share you experiences with us?

Thanks!

Hi,usually all teachers are nice, may be there are times when one could have their ups and downs !
As grown ups,we need to be understanding as well.
One thing that was really bad if it's true !
I heard that there was a music teacher who threw
the kids' recorders into the waste basket when she
was in anger and the worst was she asked the kids to pick them up again to use it without letting them clean it ! But this has never happen to my child,I told
my kid if things like that happened to him, first he must apologise for his misbehaviour if he's wrong then pick up the recorder, bring it to the toilet to wash,if the teacher stop him for no reason and make
him use the dirty recorder then he should leave the class rightaway to call home for help !
As a singaporean,I'm so shame to hear this,I just hope this is not true !
It is good to be a little demanding but not over doing it ! "Harsh" and "Mean" would be really bad !
I like SIS is because it obtains the good traditional oriental culture and also quite "OPEN" in some ways.
Still, I think the most important is one should avoid
"An abuse of power" given by the authority ! AND,
above all,not to hurt the "TRUST" that the parents
given to the teachers and to the school.
God bless our children and everyone !

Hello cfanny, when there is maths,it will always take longer time to finish them.My son is weak in maths.
He has improve a little recently since he started going to tution in this tutorial center in causeway bay because they are teaching model maths there.
It is ok for lower primary students.SIS is a good school.

My son is now studying in SIS P6. He never spends more than 1 hour in his homework, except project. He likes spending time to prepare a very nice powerpoint.

SIS is an excellent school!
