TOEFL /SSAT

To apply grade 8 from some of the middle schools in Canada, it requires to write the TOEFL test or SSAT.  

Would it be too difficult for children at 12 yo to write TOEFL test as the same test will be taken by the older children as well, say 15 or 16 yo?      

Besides, whether TOEFL or SSAT is easier to get higher marks?

it is easier to get higher marks in toefl and the the writing is very straight forward, straight to the point kind of essay
