Re: About Year 1 (Shatin Junior School)
My daughter is in P1 of SJS, before she started her P1 last Sept, she cannot yet write numbers, no to mention alphabets and she cannot yet recognise all numbers (mixing up 6 and 9, ...) not to mention recognising words.
but so far she's ok, i bet she's not the top of the class or may be even those that are slow, but she can learn happily and i did appreciate the big progress she has made so far.
she know the "days" (they have a 6-day cycle and Day 1 is PE, Day 3 is library ...) and can prepare her school bag properly;
she knows "add" and "take away" though slow (remember she not yet recognise numbers and didn't even understand 8 is bigger than 6 in reception)
she can read - amazing right!? but of course not many words.
she can write - aha! but alphabets are ugly and spacing is awful, but at least she will do it!
so relax, if you choose international school, let them develop at their own speed, no hurry no rush, SJS is a really good school with great teachers.
I did know some SJS parents arranging Kumon classes, tutorials for their kids but personally i didn't buy the idea. But u know kids are quite adaptive and flexible, so feel free to do u as well if u so desire.
