Re: Paediatrician/Doctor in Shanghai

Hi, Critic,

Although I have just lived in Shanghai for 2 months, my daughter was sick for more than 3 weeks and has seen doctor here for 2 times.  I will ring you and talk about my experience here.

The hospital that is famous for kids' treatment (I have brought my daughters here for 2 times) is 復旦大學兒科醫院. Don't go to the local people section, but go to the 外賓部 and find the Senior doctors (8:30 to 11:00, 13:30 to 16:30) for treatment.

However, I have contacted one of my friends who worked and lived in Shanghai for many year. He suggested me not go to public hospital nor those exclusive for foreigners.  He recommended me one private hospital which his family used to go there.  It is Shanghai Ren-Ai Hospital, 133 Cao Xi Road (Close to the Stadium).  He said that service here is good, place is clean and no need to line up.

May be we can discuss next week.

Re: Paediatrician/Doctor in Shanghai

I went to 復旦大學兒科醫院 外賓部 too, but I don't know how to chose a good doctor, they will assign whoever available. Have no idea who is good or not.  And, their service is really too slow.

People said the clinic in Shanghai Center is good, but they are too expensive, doctor consultating is at least Rmb 600-800 + charge for medicine.  If only flu or cold, that's too expensve!

I recently bought him an over-counter syrup (from US-good brand) it is very good, can cure his flu within 2 days.  I saw a lot of kids are taking that syrup in his school.

Re: Paediatrician/Doctor in Shanghai

Is it Johnson & Johnson?  My friend in Shanghai also recommends this medicine to me.  She said that his son was given this medicine by local doctor and his cold was cured quite fast.  She is now keeping a bottle at home and not to bring from Hong Kong doctor.

My daughter tried it also and sounds OK to her too.

Re: Paediatrician/Doctor in Shanghai

It's Robitussin from Wyeth.
On the bottle, it says in Chinese - anti-flu & cough

I think it is better than the HK medicine. He lost his appetite & sleepy whenever he took the HK medicine. This one cure very fast and he behave normal.

What about Johnson & Johnson?

Re: Paediatrician/Doctor in Shanghai

Hi Critic,

I have been here for more than 2 years.  The hospital that you've mentioned is good in SH.  I remember that my daughter consulted Dr. Li.  She is good and nice.

And in Shanghai Center, the clinic named World Link.  My daughter has had 5in1 vacination there.  It's really expensive, costed RMB1,100 each injection average.

For us, we will consult 瑞晶醫院外賓部. However the they offer local drugs normally.

Nice to talk to you guys.  If don't mind, we can talk over the phone, just 香港人有個照應.  Just pm me if you want my no.

11月媽媽,

Nice to have you join in.

Re: Paediatrician/Doctor in Shanghai

11月媽媽,

Yes, same as Critic, I am also glad to have you to join in our minority group in Shanghai.  Hope we can share each other and develop our "small circle" here.  Ha...Ha...

Good Morning, Critic,

The J&J medicine is named "Children's Tylenol".  I bought it from the local drug store and it costs RMB20 per bottle.  From the instruction sheet, it was stated that the medicine is suitable for kid from age 2 to 12.  It can relief of runny nose, stuffy nose, fever and coughs.  My friend highly recommended me for keeping this medicine as "medicine of 守門口".  My "Ah Yee" also has experience in giving this medicine to her daughter.  She said that her daughter has a cough for a week and couldn't be recovered.  She was recommended by the drug store to try this medicine.  Her daugher was recovered after having it for 3 days.  On Last Friday, my daughter started to have running nose. I gave her medicine for 2 times and then she recovered.

I don't know how it compares with the Wyeth's medicine.  But if Tylenol is OK to my daughter, I think I would try the others at the moment.

I don't know whether 11月媽咪 is a full time mother or career woman as you.   As I am a full-time "亞四" and am quite free when my daughter is schooling, then see 11月媽咪 and your schedule for having lunch gathering.

Hope to see you all the soonest.

Shanghai Mommies Club

I've changed our topic title, should be easier to track our discussion.

I know which J&J you are talking about, they have ad. everywhere. Will buy one and keep in fridge.

My boss is not coming this week but I'm very busy, will try to see if we can meet this week. I've to look for a new shop/office/warehouse, one sales executive for Shanghai office, do X'mas decoration & display for the shop.  I'm becoming multi-talent.

I guess 11月媽咪 is full-time mom, most HK taitai no need to work in Shanghai, I'm so poor.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Hope more BK members in Shanghai will join our topic after you change the topic name.

You are not poor and in fact, I am quite "jealous" that you've got a good job here in Shanghai.  You can do something that you have no experience before.   I also plan to find a job after Chinese New Year Holiday.  If I keep on my life like present, I am sure my brain and my skills will become handicape.

My comment on J&J medicine is quite subjective.  I am not the sales of J&J.  Or the best way is to visit doctor when kid is sick......  However, it seems that both of us still can't find a good doctor here.  What a pity!!!

Talk to you later.  Cheers,

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Hi,

Happy to see your responses.  Yes I am a full time "ah-yi" for my daughter.  And living in Puxi.  I'll pm my no. to both of you later.  Hope can join your gathering.  Even I have been here for 2 years, my friend group is small

About J&J medicine, we can buy it from Watson's or local drug store.  Because my girl is too small, I am not comfortable to give her local drug even J&J.  Therefore we have prepared HK medicine from the doctor.  Sometimes 保嬰丹.

ok need to 服侍大小姐,再傾..bye

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Hi, 11月媽媽,

Glad to know another "full time ah yi" here in Shanghai.  I have received your PM and will give you my contact a bit later.  I also live Puxi.

My personal life starts when my daughter is at school during weekday.  But the morning, I brought her back from school as her teacher told me that one of her classmates got "手足口病".  The little girl did go to school yesterday and started sick last night.  I feel scare as my daughter did have a cold these days and her health condition will be easily attacked by the virus.......  So, I will be busy to take care of her during the coming days until I am informed by school that it is save to go.  According to the teacher, "the transitional period" takes around 10 days.  If a kid being infected, it takes around 2 weeks to a month to recover.   I am so scare.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

LittleWing,

I and 11月媽媽 will meet tomorrow-Friday for lunch. Call me if you can join.

If your girl does not go to school for 10 days, she will miss the Xmas Party?  I think most will have it on Dec 22 or 23.   My son is excited, he is helping teachers to decorate the classroom.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Hi Critic, Little wing and Nov mama,
Although I am still staying in HK, please let me join your club, my heart was in Shanghai as my hubby work there.
I am not so fortunate as you all, I still need to work in HK to make a living and I am now having my second baby .      That means I have to work even harder.
Actually I will fly to SH from time to time if my senior let me  take vacational leave. We are really short of manpower.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Hi,

So happy to have one more member, angelachan here.  I  posted similar topic on 媽媽會所 but got nothing a few months ago.  It seems a good beginning.

About the x'mas decoration, I suggest you to go to 瑞晶花市,which is near by 瑞晶酒店. G/F is a fresh flowers market just like our 花墟. 2/F is for 乾貨. You will find x'mas trees and related stuff there.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Hi, Angelachan,

Welcome your joining our club!  I understand your situation, it is quite hard to make a decision for giving up a job (of course, income) and have family reunion here in Shanghai.  But it is a kind of "give and take".  I have no regret in making the decision to move in here although our family income is less than before.  At least, my daughter have more chance to see his father.

Congratulation!  when is the expected date?  Take good care of yourself...

Critic and 11月媽咪,

I have already gone to "cheng wang mau" last Sunday.  As I have already shipped the Christmas decarative stuff from HK to here (I used to decorate my home after my daughter was born), I decided not to buy additional stuff to save money ma.  My husband said that I am very "C 9".  Ha...Ha....

Your suggestion are good!  Thank you for sharing.  I am quite new to Shanghai. It seems that I don't know many places that you guys already familiar with.   I think I have to make myself localize as soon as possible.   My friend told me that "the longer you live in Shanghai, the more you love this city".  Hope it is true.. But at the moment, it is too far to be true.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Little Wing,

To be localized is not easy in SH.  As I am still learning too.

If you like to buy cheap cheap things, you can go to 襄陽市場or a baby market at 普安路/延安路.  Hope I can share some more you needed soon.

See u tomorrow.
