My girl went to 黃埔 before, she enrolled in a week training programme when she was P4. It was very harsh she said and P4 isn't a suitable age to go i think.
My girl called her grandfather to take her back at the second day haha.
you better ask your child clearly and please tell him/her homesick will be approached easily.
The main point is most of the tour recommend or even has a limit for the applicant's age, 7-8 isn't enough if i still clearly rmb haha.
anyway, its important to ask your child clearly whether they want to go or not:)

i think 學聯goes to 中山.  
深圳黃埔is a very good experience for the kids to learn to be independent.  The min. age is 8 years old.  My daughter went in the summer of P3/P4, and she liked it very much.  She recommended it to her friends & went again with 3 classmates in the summer of P4/P5.  All 4 of them made it through the week.  I am also thinking of sending my son (now in P2) this coming summer.
However, I agree that you should talk with your son first & make sure he understand what he is going into and what is expected of him.

My daughter joined 護協 (http://www.nurse.org.hk/c_index.htm),they usually have tour to 深圳黃埔during summer holiday.  I like them because they have a nurse to go with the tour, so that the kids are better taken care of.
