怎樣的孩子適合留學,麻煩有經驗家長

怎樣的孩子適合留學,是否要學生是遇強愈強，和自主學習能高力及社交能力強較好,應按子女      
   性格、能力和需要選校為佳嗎?朋友成功例子是遇強愈強,自主學習能高是拿取獎學金由中學至好大學,失敗有2-3月不能適應學校生活,以淚洗面,最後家長接回hk,如成績跟不上,點算好?留班定補考定退學,如回流有好選擇嗎?我的孩子又貪睡又不主動學習,去留學可以改變嗎?還是博一博,麻煩有經驗家長(養兒100歲,長憂九十九)

我原先選校的原則首要是學校排名，因小兒也是毫不主動學習，希望他入讀成績好的學校能受同學感染主動學習，結果他入了間冇什麼活動而全校只得2個識中文的學校又幾適合他，但依然很hea。

我識3個Form3從香港去英國讀的香港band1A全級頭10名的尖子讀了1年就回流返香港讀，全因他們不能䰛入當地的社區圈子而在英國成績大跌和覺得很悶而返來香港就讀。

至於在英國讀到留班就未聽過，因英國的課程比香港淺好多，又小班十幾人教學。所以真是不用擔心追不上留班。

至於補習，我所知英國人就算考公開試個個都唔會補習，只有香港的家長先會為兒女搵補習。

我識得3個當年在香港band1A學校考百幾的學生中三到英國讀排名80以內的學校, 3個GCSE都考10A以上，3個現已Cambridge畢業。

我覺得在香港讀得唔好而轉換環境到英國就讀是一個唔錯的選擇。至於選校最好揀一些有人曾在此校讀過而有口啤的學校，不葽只看排名。

阿仔考了幾間學校，有男女校有男校，全部都收，結果讀了間男校。

我好同意同輩既影響好重要,所以ranking都係我首要考慮的因素。間學校都會好緊張自己既位。

我所識的朋友讀排名高的學校，一些中四過去先開始讀法文，讀了一個term追不上便比學校踢了出來唔比繼續讀外文，一些讀了一年phy chem bio因成績未達標便強迫他們考GCSE combined science 而不是phy Chen bio三科，因怕他們成績影嚮學校排名，但有些排名高的中六理科是不收combined science學生讀理科。

It's not possible for a HK F4 student can pick up French as the local boys.  Local boys starts French from Year 7.  If the HK boy finishes F4 and goes to Uk to further study, he would join Year 11, prepare the GCSE exam.  It's not possible at all!   
Most of the private independent schools offer "trible science".  The boys schools are usually doing well in these subjects.  

I know grammar schools offer combined/core science.

I agree that it is impossible for a F. 4 boy to start afresh to learn a GCSE French.  So I let my boy learning Spanish in F.1 in HK before sending him abroad in later years.

My friend's school only allows the top 40% science students studying triple science. The remaining 60% students are classified as substandard students who are only allowed to sit for combined science which is much easier than triple science and has less recognition for science stream.

However, my friend was never aware of such school policy from the agent before he chose this school.

Thank you for your explanation on the science subjects.  It also explains why some private schools offer 30+ subjects for choose for GCSE and A Level exams.  Why have have triple science and core science at the same time.
My son is studying in private school, I can't deny that their homework and assessments are very comprehensive, very creative and quite brain storming.

Probably the agent does not know the details on the subject division.  Moreover, as a parent, if the school tells you that your son will get higher marks if he takes combined science, will you say no?

Study in UK is an 100% enjoyable life.  No pressure at all.  The report is only concentrating at the kid's performance/involvement in class and homework.  They have assessments but they don't concentrate on that part.  They care about the kids learning attitude rather than the ability.  
Many PE and games lessons to release their energy!

If you kid is a bit lazy but clever, likes to play, doesn't like to do home work, you have sufficient funding, don't want him to fight with the private tutorial classes, why not have a try.  You know it would be very difficult for him to continue studying in HK.  If you son is very "hea", then set the right expection!

My friend's kid said no to his elite boarding school due to frustration in dropping French and the study of combined science. He finally quitted the study in UK and came back to HK to his previous school to study DSE again.

Sounds a little strange.
If the boy is not good enough to do triple science at GCSE, he'll struggle even more with DSE.
Most Hong Kong students, especially those who didn't skip a grade, have no problem with science and maths at all.
Most get into elite boarding schools on the back of their strong science and maths showing at the entrance exams.

I agree that most can get into elite boarding especially in lower forms.

My friend and elder son's classmates were admitted by Winchester, Tonbridge, Harrow, Oundle, Abingdon, Kings Canterbury, Brighton, Charterhouse, CLC, Badminton, St Mary Calne, etc for Grade 8 or 9 several years ago - all are so called UK cream schools by the agency. It seems that the entry for these top notch but quite expensive schools are not too difficult in lower forms.

For Grade 12, if you target for top 50 ranking schools, all my friends' kids got at least 25 marks in school cert - much more difficult than entry in lower forms.
