Can anyone share their experience with me re: sending their children to international school?

my quiry is that : if I send my child to international school,  will he end up having a smaller peer group/friends?  I mean if he is better in english speaking, he probably will only have friends from school. He won't make friends from playgrounds, others local 興趣班 as easy.   

Frankly speaking, this is the reason I never consider international school until now.

我冇諗過呢個問題喎, 點解興趣班會識唔到朋友呀?? 就算真係識唔到都唔會因為咁而唔讀IS架, 佢識唔到Cantonese speaking friends者, 但係佢地有English speaking朋友架嘛, 朋友又會介紹朋友大家識架嘛, 而且可以返d英文上o既興趣班, 咁咪識到其他朋友囉

我係驚佢嘅朋友圈子細, 唔夠'本地化', 以後社交network too limited.  而且international school 圈子嘅話題同local schools 嘅又會唔同 (尤其係鬼妹鬼仔嗰d), 衣著打扮同local 嘅都會唔同.

It depends on what you want your kid to be?!  If u think the local culture is good and suitable for your family, and you can't stand with others.  IS may not be your choice.  Honestly, the culture preference of your kid also depends on what environment you will provide?  If you speak only english to your kid, and your kid can't speak and understands only a little cantonese, then, he may stick to western culture (like my son).  Anyway, I think the social circle is not small for IS students.  Globalization is the trend of the world.  Don't worry.  On the other hand, if your kid can't speak cantonese, it's quite difficult for him to join the local playgroup.  For me, local culture is not my cup of tea and therefore I really comfort with the social development of my boy.  Further, languages is not a barrier for kids, they can communicate by boby language.

It all depends on the character of your kid.  If he is outgoing enough, nothing can stop him from making friends.   My son is trilingual.  Though quite poor in Mandarin, he is very aggressive in making friends with Mandarin-speaking kids who we come across from time to time when joinging tours for holidays.  He studies in an international school (ESF), but he likes speaking different languages in different occasions.  He speaks excellent Hong Kong-Chinese slangs!
