hi momom,
Now my child is not studying in Starters but I want to apply afternoon session from Nov.
Do you think Starters is a good school? How about the teacher and environment? Is you son enjoy his school life? Is he like to go to school? Will all graduates enter ESF primary or other IS? Sorry, maybe too many questions. Many thanks.

hi Yau-cheung,
Are you keen on the ESF primary school? If you are preparing to go to ESF primary school, I think you apply am class rather than pm class. I advise you check with the school and ask for their recommendation
My son enjoys his school life and he like his class teacher, but there is no handbook to know what he learn from the school. By my observation, he has learnt some new songs and sometimes he sing in home. He tells me that there is story time, singing and playing in the playground. Moreover, the school has introduced the show & tell session once per week and ask the child to bring one thing such as toy or book to show & tell to the classmates.
The teacher is native english speaker but the school space is not big and a little bit old. You can call the school to have a visit first.
Most graduates go to ESF or other IS as told by the school.

That really depends on your luck.
Actually, my friend's sons were doing well in Starter. And 90% students went to ESF(according to Starter). So , I sent my son to Starter as well. But, my son learnt nothing. We dropped out quickly. When I talked to a mother whose son had studied Starter for 1 year. She mentioned that Ms. Illa? is actually a Russian.
Learn English from Russian. It is really a big joke.
But, that's just my personal experience.

hi Share,
I also visited Starter on Tue afternoon. I found that the class size for 4 years old is 28 pupils but only 1 native class teacher with 2 assistants. The secretary said that Tue and Thu is phonics class and the maximum class size is 30 . She also said that Mon, Wed and Fri is talk along class and the class size is around 15.
Besides, I stayed in the school around 30 minutes. The native class teacher was talking with 1 class assistant. All children (28 pupils) only played toys by themselves and the teacher didn't say anything to them (but it is a phonics class) .
My son studied Lower and Upper kindergarten at Starters and had two fun filled years there. I found all classrooms are certainly not dark at all during class time, they are in fact very well lit. Old toys don't mean they are not educational or fun to play with by the kids.
Dear cheque,
You are welcomed! Sorry I haven't heard of Miss Illa, maybe she is a new teacher at Starters. My son's teacher was Mrs. Morton in Lower Kindergarten. What makes you think that Miss Illa was bad? Have you had a chance to speak with her yet? Does she have a Russian accent?
My son speaks fluent English when graduating from Starters. I've seen a few of his classmates who don't speak a word of English when entering Lower Kindergarten in September, being able to communicate with no problems by the Christmas break. The English environment provided by their parents at home is also crucial I think.

I have visited the school. Although the envoronment is not very good, the students seems very nice. They said good morning and hello to me that day and they look happy to study there.

Dear gab,
Thank you very much for your favourable reply.
Your valuable experience made me to consider to let my son to study in lower class at Starters again.
Hi Cheque:
1. Yes, my son completed two years in Starters.
2. Bradbury School
My son's two am classes have around 25-29 students, also with 1 teacher and 2 teaching assistants. To us its 1:10 ratio is not bad. Sorry I'm not sure how the pm classes are conducted but during the second year, quite a few of my son's classmates enrolled in the pm session too as I see their helpers bringing lunch to school for them.
I believe Starters is a good backup to apply for in case a child from a local Cantonese speaking family couldn't get a seat at the ESF Sheung Wan (which guarantees an interview spot).
