Think (Kowloon Tong) & CAIS

Both schools accept my child's application of G1(P1), can't decide how to choose.

Can anyone provide me some opinion?
Thanks a lot

My son had also been accepted by both schools last year.

I finally chosed CAIS, because:

1.  At CAIS, christian ethics is one of a compulsory subjects. Although I am not a christian, I appreicate my son to have bible study at school that providing him a good ethics development.

2. I had a school visit at Think. Their teachers are very nice but only one class in each Grade.

3. If I choose Think, I probably need to worry where my son to go after Grade 6.

Hope these are helped.:恭:

leegbd,

Thank you very much.
I agree that CAIS has the advantage of having christian ethics as a core subject, however, there is one hour chinese lesson everyday in Think, and the school fee is cheaper than CAIS.   Really don't know how to choose....do you have any idea about the chinese standard of CAIS?

How much is the school fee of Think? I think it is not a big difference.

If you consider about Chineses, of couse, CAIS is not enough. My son has a private Chinese tutorial at home.

leegbd,

The school fee of Think is $5900 and I dont need to worry about finding a private chinese tutor for my kid.  For CAIS, I heard that they will increase the fee to $6900 for Grade 1 2008/2009
Do you mind telling me what grade your son is in?  How many day a week are you arranging the chinese class for him?  Does it work (regarding both reading and writing skill)?

Thank you very much for your help

Copy that from other people

Honestly speaking, CAIS campus is quite small compare to most IS, and the facilities is so and so.
However, Think Campus is even smaller, for Kinder is OK! But you are talking about Primary…

Well, it is your decision. Better "think twice"

I don't feel surprised that the school fee will be increased but I have not yet received any message from the school.

My son is in G1. He has Chinese tutorial once a week at hour. At CAIS, he has 2 to 3 Chinese classes a week,( because it runs 6 days cycle) but he is taught the simplified Chineses which is different from what he learns at home. For me, I don't have a high expectation on his Chinese as long as he can speak and read basically. His writing is not very good but reading is far away from my expectation.

My opinion is to consider the purpose of sending your kid to an IS as everybody has different preference.

leebd,
Thank you very much for the tutor information.  Before calling her, do you mind telling me if $80/hour is 1:1 at your home?

MarcusD,
Thanks a lot, however, I have been thinking more than twice but still can not make a decision.

Dear Anise

May be you can vist both school and talk to the class teacher in details. Seek advice on some aspect / weakness of your child. And see what is their experience.

Christian Alliance P.C. Lau Memorial International School (CAIS) is an independent, non-profit, K-12 Christian international school that is owned and operated by the Kowloon Tong Church of the Chinese Christian and Missionary Alliance (KTAC) in Hong Kong.

You can try RC too!

I not yet make up my mind will I send my boy to IS school after Kindergarten.  So I would like to get more info/advice from other parent.  My concern is I would like he can study the university at HK, thus can IS student apply HK universities easily, just like the student who study from ordinary secondary school?

Most university in HK also accept IS student.

For local school they apply though "JUPAS"

For IS school they apply though "non-JUPAS", that is those student from oversea , IVY, Asso. Degree, etc..

Then I don't know! Of course if you compare the acad. standard with IVY or Asso. degree. I am sure most IS student should be OK!

But you can go to the web of the University and have a look of their policy.

e.g HKU
Non-JUPAS Admissions Scheme
The University of Hong Kong welcomes applications for admission through what is called the "non-JUPAS" Admissions Scheme to our many undergraduate programmes from international and local candidates who are not current students in the mainstream schools in Hong Kong and who are not applying for admission on the strength of Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination results. In fact, this University takes in many of its students from the many thousands of applicants who apply through this route each year. There are no fixed quotas for non-JUPAS applicants, the number of students that are admitted being a function of the number and quality of students applying each year from both the JUPAS and non-JUPAS schemes.

Other Qualifications Entry
Other qualifications may include an academic qualification from a local post-secondary institution or a professional qualification acceptable to the University. Qualifications attained by study at a local international school such as GCE Advanced Level or an International Baccalaureate Diploma are also accepted as satisfying the General Entrance Requirements.
For non-local qualifications, most school-leaving qualifications acceptable for university entry are recognized. However, applicants from some countries may be required to supplement their studies with a foundation year study. Click here or refer to the Admissions Viewbook for a list of acceptable qualifications obtained in other countries.
Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained in a language other than English will need an acceptable result in an approved English language qualification such as TOEFL or IELTS.

Canada

British Columbia
Senior Secondary Graduation Diploma with Grade B in five Grade 12 subjects
Ontario
Ontario Secondary School Diploma with a minimum average of 70% in six Grade 12 U or M courses
Quebec
Diploma of Collegial Studies
Other provinces
High school graduation diploma with at least 70% in five Grade 12 subjects
